John Valentine

John Henry Valentine, 90, of 222 Hilltop Drive, entered eternal rest on Tuesday, Sept. 24, 2013, at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.

Born in Union County, he was the son of the late John and Mandy Belle “Kate” McCluney Valentine. He was the widower of Bertha Dillard Valentine and Mattie Gardner Valentine. Mr. Valentine was a member of Suck Creek Baptist Church, a former employee of Duke Power and a retired carpenter .

Surviving are a daughter, Evelyn Huskey of Gaffney; two brothers, J.C. Valentine (Sarah) of Chicago, Ill., and Homer Lee Valentine of New Haven, Conn.; a sister, Cordelia Hogue (Johnny) of Grover, N.C.; four grandsons, Eddie Dean Huskey (Christine) of Columbia, Henry Huskey (Gloria) of Gaffney, Hoyal Wallace Huskey (Glenda) of Blacksburg and A.D. Huskey (Janice) of Cowpens; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, Sept. 29, at 3 p.m. in Gilmore Mortuary Chapel with the Rev. C.A. Wallace officiating. Interment will be in Springhill Memorial Gardens, Chesnee.

The family is at the home of his daughter at 1362 Leadmine Road, Gaffney.

Shauna Alea Johnson

shaunaobitShauna Alea Johnson, 26, of 630 Colonial Ave., entered eternal rest on Saturday, Sept.14, 2013, at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.

Daughter of William Johnson Jr. and Claudia Clary Johnson, she was born in Spartanburg on Jan. 1, 1987. She was a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church, where she served as an usher, member of the Y.W.A.s and the Angelic Choir. Shauna was a graduate of Gaffney High School.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Barbara Johnson, Shirley Cross and Jacqueline Johnson; great-grandparents, T.C. Clary, Idella Clary, Jerry Johnson and Elwillie Johnson. Continue reading Shauna Alea Johnson

Susan “Susie” Phillips

21p1.previewSusan “Susie” Phillips, 72, of 107 Avondale Drive, entered eternal rest on Sunday, Sept. 8, 2013, at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.

She was born in Cherokee County, a daughter of the late J.B. Watkins and Myrtle Phillips Mc- Cluney. She was a member of Mt. Sinai Baptist Church.

Susie was preceded in death by a daughter, Nellie Ann Phillips; siblings, Carolyn Abernathy, Wineva Phillips, Inez McCluney, Doris Phillips, Alfrieda Bonner, Broadus Phillips and Claude Mc- Cluney Jr. Continue reading Susan “Susie” Phillips
