Samuel O. Tate

Samuel Tate passed away Saturday, April 14, 2018, in Brookview Healthcare Center.

He was born in Gaffney, South Carolina on March 27, 1932 to Lewis and Alice Goudelock Tate.

Samuel was a 1951 graduate of Granard High School, a graduate of Morgan State University in Maryland, and a veteran of the United States Army, where he attained the rank of Lieutenant.

“Uncle Sammy,” as he was affectionately called, was the youngest of twenty children born to Lewis Tate.
His parents and siblings preceded him in death.

Local survivors include a niece, Mrs. Marie Dawkins; great nieces, Mrs. Etta Ree Jones, Rev. Mary Jefferies, Mrs. Jessie Mae Manning, Mrs. Pamela Black, and Ms. Sheila Dawkins; great-nephew, Rev. L.D. Dawkins, Jr.; other relatives and friends.

Funeral Services will be Tuesday, April 17, 2018 at 3:00 p.m. in the The Gilmore Mortuary Chapel with Rev. L.D. Dawkins, Jr. officiating. Interment will follow in the Gaffney Memorial Park.

He will be in state in the chapel Tuesday at 2 p.m.

Ms. Dorothy Bee Tate

Ms. Dorothy Bee Tate, 78, of 510 Northgate Rd. passed away Friday, April 6, 2018, in Peachtree Centre, Gaffney SC.

She was born in Gaffney on January 10, 1940 to Lawrence and Pearlie Mae Oglesby Tate.

Dorothy was a member of the Granard High School Class of 1961. She was a retired employee of TNS Mills.

She was a member at Mt. Sinai Missionary Baptist Church where she was served on The Mass Choir, The Gospel Choir, Sunday School and Bible Study Group.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Rev. L.T. Tate; and a sister, Merlee Mobley.

Surviving are: two brothers, Howard Tate (Louenia) of Shelby, NC and Wallace Tate (Donna) of Gaffney; two sisters, Ms. Brenda Tate and Mrs. Josephine Wilkins, both of Gaffney; other relatives and friends.

Funeral Services will be Thursday, April 12, 3 p.m. in Mt. Sinai Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. C. A. Wallace officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

She will be in state in the church Thursday at 2 p.m.
