Deggie Denise Smith

Deggie Denise Smith, 56, of 401 McCluney Drive, passed away Monday, September 24, 2018, in her home.

Wife of Harry Lee Smith, she was born in Cherokee County and was a daughter of the late Jerline Dawkins.

She was a 1980 graduate of Gaffney High School. Deggie was a member of Mt. Tabor Baptist Church where she served as an usher, member of the YWAs and Culinary Committee.

In addition to her mother, she was preceded in death by a brother, Shedrick Dawkins; grandparents, Ella and Hollis Dawkins, Sr., nephew, Jamal Dawkins; uncle, Lyman Dawkins, Sr.; aunts, Osteen Dawkins, Willie Ruth Tate, and Lillie Mae Woods (Horace).

Surviving are: her husband, Harry Lee Smith of the home; two daughters, Chasity Smith-Parker (Paul) and Ariel Smith; one son, De’Arron Smith; a sister, Melanie Dawkins; grandson, Demerius Coleman; aunts, Inez Dawkins, Marva Littlejohn (Frank), and Verlie Littlejohn (Thomas); uncles, Bob Tate and Hollis Dawkins; nephews, Elijah Dawkins and Chad Byers, Sr.; brother-in-law, Grant Smith; two special children, TraQuanda Hunt of Gaffney and Kelsi Gist of Boling Springs, SC.

Funeral Services will be Sunday, 2:00 p.m., in Mt. Tabor Baptist Church with Rev. Rev. Darrell Smith officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery. She will be in state in the church Sunday at 1:30 p.m.

Kristy Shawana Harris

Kristy Shawana Harris, was born in Gaffney, South Carolina on February 12, 1973 to Gwendolyn Harris and Johnny Martin.

She passed away on Thursday, September 20, 2018, in her home, 442 Indian Hill Street, Gaffney, SC.

Early in life, she accepted Christ as her Savior and joined Mount Zion Baptist Church. She attended Indian Hill Baptist Church.

Surviving are: a son, Johnathan; special friend, Sidney Dawkins; four brothers, Regis Harris (Kia); Reggie Harris, Vincent, and Raymond Foster of Pacolet; three sisters, Zaneta Harris, Lashanta Harris, and Tracy Martin Foster; a cousin, Carrie Martin, raised as her sister; granddaughter, Chloe Mack; aunts, (Phronia Bradley (Howard), and Doris Harris; uncle, Isaac Harris (Betty); nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.

Funeral Services will be Wednesday, at 2 p.m. in Indian Hill Baptist Church with Rev. Michael Williamson officiating and Dr. A.L. Brackett, eulogist. Interment will be in Mount Zion Baptist Church Cemetery. She will be in state in the church Wednesday at 1 p.m.

Laura Mae Crosby

Laura Mae Crosby, 80, 0f 921 Hetty Hill Street, passed away Monday, September 17, 2018, in the Peachtree Centre, Gaffney, SC.

She was born in Gaffney and was a daughter of the late James and Syvelia Butler Crosby.

Laura was a graduate of Granard High School and a former member of Limestone Missionary Baptist Church.

Surviving are: four children, Steven L. Crosby of Brick, NJ, Syncere Lord (nee David Whitley) of Stamford, CT, Laurie Jenkins of Bridgeport, CT, and Amy Whitley of Janesville, WI; brothers Willie Crosby (Annie G.) of Gaffney, Gordon Crosby (Dorothy) of Wellford, SC, Vincent Crosby (Jane) of Blacksburg; sisters, Elaine White of Spartanburg, Carrie Foster, and Judy Belcher, all of Gaffney; 5 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren.

Services will be Saturday, 1:00 p.m., in The Gilmore Mortuary Chapel with Dr. Michael A. Bridges officiating and Russell Jenkins, Jr., eulogist.

The family is at the home of Judy Horton Belcher, 609 Hetty Hill Street.
