Annette Smith Anderson

25p1Annette (“Rooster”) Smith Anderson, 65, of Oakland, Calif., entered eternal rest on Thursday, Oct. 16, 2014, in Oakland.

Born in Cherokee County, she was a daughter of the late Herman and Rosetta Clark Crosby- Smith. She was a 1968 graduate of Granard High School and former member of Bethel C.M.E. Church in Blacksburg. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Barbara Woods.

Surviving are a daughter, Yolanda Jackson of Suffolk, Va.; two sisters, Judy Carr Smith of Gaffney and Catheline Hamilton of Las Vegas, Nev.; three brothers, Roosevelt Crosby of Lawrenceville, Ga,, Bennie Smith of San Francisco, Calif., and Terry Smith of Taylors; several nieces and nephews; and best friend, Modestine “Tina” Earls of Charlotte.

Memorial services will be held in Newport News, Va., and the date will be announced later.

Nellie L. Gilmore

gilmore2On Saturday, October 18, 2014, formerly of Washington, DC, passed in Spartanburg, SC. She was a retired educator from DC Public Schools. Ms. Gilmore was a member of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. and Vermont Avenue Baptist Church. She is survived by a host of family members and friends.

Funeral services at 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 25, 2014 at Majority Baptist Church, Spartanburg, SC.

Arrangements entrusted to Gilmore Mortuary, Gaffney, SC.

Rose Ann Dawkins Smith

Rose Ann Dawkins Smith, 90, of New York City, died Wednesday, in her home.

Widow of Roosevelt Smith, she was born in Cleveland County, NC. She was a daughter of the late Flora Dawkins Watkins and Ashmore Davis.

She was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church in New York and a former member of Mt. Sinai Baptist Church in Gaffney.

She was preceded in death by: her parents; stepfather, Grady Watkins; son, Clarence Dawkins; siblings, Elizabeth Rodgers, Willie Mae Johnson and Willie Davis.

Surviving are: three sons, Calvin Dawkins (Betty) of Forest City, NC, Grady Dawkins (Wanda) and Johnny Ray Dawkins, all of Gaffney; two daughters, Lucy Littlejohn of Gaffney and I.V. Edwards (Nelson) of New York City; a sister, Minnie Littlejohn of Gaffney; daughter-inlaw, June Dawkins of Brooklyn, NY; 14 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and 12 great-great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, 2 p.m., in Shiloh Baptist Church in New York City.
