Frederick S. Watkins, Sr.

Watkins Photo2CHESNEE – Frederick S. Watkins Sr., 84, of 400 Walker Ave., Apt. 6411, entered eternal rest on Thursday, March 19, 2015, at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.

Widower of Mary Jane Louise Sarratt Watkins, he was born in Cherokee County and was the son of the late S. Phillips and the late Willie Mae Curtis Watkins. He was a member of Greater Buck Shoals Ministries and a retired employee of Cone Mills.

Mr. Watkins was preceded in death by two children, Sonny and Jeanette Watkins; five siblings, Jimmy, L.C., Dell, Vickie and “Toot” Watkins.

Surviving are five sons, Jimmy (Diane) Watkins of Jackson, Tenn., Joseph (Lorraine) Brannon of Spartanburg, Frederick Donnell Watkins Jr., Keith L. (Telisa) Watkins Sr., of Gaffney, Richard Lipscomb of Morganton, N.C.; two daughters, Ruth (Rev. L.J.) Valentine of Cowpens and Ruby Gail (Emerson) Hughes of Spartanburg; three sisters, Dorothy Dawkins, Sandra Phillips and Jean Phillips, all of North Carolina; 19 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, March 24, at 3 p.m. at Greater Buck Shoals Ministries Church with the Rev. T.E. Mc- Dowell officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery. He will lie in state from 2-3 p.m.

Jeffery Charles Jefferies

Born in Charleston, he was the son of James Lemar Jefferies and Parnice Davis Jefferies. “Jeff” was a member of Mount Sinai Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by two brothers, James Paul Gist and James E. Jefferies, both of Gaffney; seven aunts, Clara Davis of Cincinnati, Ohio, Mary Fernanders, Amogene Byers, Birdie Garnett all of Gaffney, Christine Reaves of Detroit, Mich., Alice Davis of San Antonio, Texas, Beulah J. Washington of Charleston; six uncles, Lewis M.C. (“Joe”) Davis and Samuel Garnett of Gaffney, Henry Reaves of Detroit, Rev. A.L. Brackett of Spartanburg, Rev. McKinley Washington of Charleston and James Thompson of Blacksburg.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 21, at 2 p.m. at Mount Sinai Baptist Church with the Rev. C.A. Wallace officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery. He will lie in state in the church Saturday from 1-2 p.m.

The family is at the home of his parents,122 Connecticut Ave., Gaffney.

Henry Joseph Oglesby

26p1.preview-3Henry Joseph Oglesby, 60, of 266 Goldmine Springs Road, entered eternal rest on Wednesday, March 11, 2015, at Brookview HealthCare Center.

Born in Cherokee County, he was the son of the late J.D. and Cora Wood Oglesby. He graduated in 1973 from Gaffney High School and was a former employee of The Gaffney Ledger. Early in life, he joined Philadelphia Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Joseph Sherall Oglesby; two sisters, Hattie Mitchem and Minnie Lee Gibbs; and a brother, Charlie James Oglesby.

Surviving are two daughters, Sharon Crosby and Quintina Crosby, both of Gaffney; four sisters, Nellie Ree Brown (John Ray), Zandra Lindsay (Bobby), Joyce Dawkins (Lonnie) and Lucille Garrett (James), all of Gaffney; five brothers, J.C. Oglesby, Wilbert Oglesby, both of Gaffney, Robert Earl Oglesby, Cecil Oglesby and Jerry Oglesby of Raleigh, N.C.; five grandchildren and one greatgrandchild.

Funeral services will be held Monday, March 16, at 1 p.m. in The Gilmore Mortuary Chapel with the Rev. Kenneth Mitchem, Dr. Michael A. Bridges, the Rev. Pittman Harris and the Rev. Clarence Davis officiating. Interment will be in New Mount Zion Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family is at the home of Quintina Crosby, 303 Serene Drive.
