Eddie Lee Holmes

Eddie Lee Holmes, son of the late Artis Poole Holmes and  Edward Holmes, was born in Cherokee County on June 16, 1948.

He was educated in the public schools of Cherokee County and was a graduate of Granard High School, Class of 1966.

On August 8, 1969, he was united in marriage to Linda Marie Dawkins. She passed away in 2009. Eddie was a loving husband; a devoted father to two children; and “Paw Paw” to two boys. He always strove to nurture his family.

Early in life, he accepted Christ as his Savior and joined Concord Baptist Church where he served as a trustee.

He leaves to cherish loving memories: two daughters, Trena Holmes and Teronda Holmes-Norris;  two grandsons, Harlem Walker and Tyler Norris; two brothers, Olee Holmes (Sheila) and James Manning (Rev. Modestine); sisters, Arilla Holmes and Mary Thomas;  mother-in-law, Mrs. Marie Dawkins; brothers-in-law, Evangelist L.D. Dawkins, Jr. (Bernice) and James Robinson; sisters-in-law, Mrs. Etta Jones, Mrs. Jessie Mae Manning (W.C.), The Reverend Mary Jefferies, Mrs. Pamela Black, and Miss. Sheila Dawkins; a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Funeral Service will be Thursday, 11:00 a.m., in Concord Baptist Church with Dr. Michael A. Bridges officiating. Interment will follow in the Church Cemetery.

He will be in state in the church Thursday at 10:00 a.m.

Larry “Mope” Littlejohn

Larry Donell “Mope” Littlejohn, 58, of 112 Kennedy Street passed away Thursday in Inman, SC.

He was born in Gaffney and was a son of Mrs. Eria Littlejohn Corry and the late J.C. Adams.

He was a member of Mount Zion Baptist Church and a self-employed handyman.

“Mope” was preceded in death by his father, two brothers, Joe Dean Adams and James Charles “Ned” Adams, and a special aunt, Sophie Littlejohn.

He leaves to cherish loving memories: his mother, Mrs. Eria Corry, of Gaffney; sisters, Johnnie Mae Littlejohn, Jessie Littlejohn, Barbara Littlejohn, Frances Corry, Willie Mae Littlejohn, Teresa Adams, Veronica Sims, and Yolanda Wray (Tony), all of Gaffney, Shirley Smith, of Greenville, SC, Diane Howell (Carl) and Sylvia Adams, of Jacksonville, FL; two brothers, Bruce Adams (Phyllis) and Burgess Haney, of Gaffney; step-mother, Mrs. Nancy Adams, of Gaffney; a niece, Kathy Littlejohn, and nephew, Devontae Dawkins, raised in the home; other relatives and many friends.

Funeral Service will be Thursday, 3:00 p.m., in Mt. Sinai Baptist Church with Rev. C.A. Wallace and Minister Stephanie Tate. Interment will follow in Mount Zion Baptist Church Cemetery.

He will be in state in the church Thursday at 2:00 p.m.

Hollis Dawkins, Jr.

Hollis Dawkins, Jr., 75, of 530 Colonial Avenue, passed away Wednesday, April 3, 2019, in Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home.

He was born in Cherokee County and was a son of the late Hollis Dawkins, Sr. and Ella Goudelock Dawkins.

He attended Granard High School and was a member of Mt. Tabor Baptist Church.

Hollis was preceded in death by siblings: his twin, and Osteen Dawkins, Willie Ruth Tate (Bob), Jerline Dawkins, Lillie Mae Woods, and Lyman Dawkins, Sr.

Surviving are: two sisters, Marva Littlejohn (Frank) and Verlie Littlejohn (Thomas) of Gaffney; sister-in-law, Inez Dawkins; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral Services will be held Saturday at 2:00 p.m., in Mt. Tabor Baptist Church with Rev. Darrell Smith officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery.

The family is at the home of Verlie and Thomas Littlejohn, 515 Hetty Hill Street.
