Daryl William Davis

Daryl William Davis, 42,of 700 New Street, passed away Saturday, July 20, 2019, in Gaffney.

He was born August 24th, 1976 in Cherokee County and was a son of Frances Davis of the home and the late James William Smith.

He was a graduate of Gaffney High School “Class of 1996”. He welcomed everyone with a big open heart and loved to make people laugh. He never met a stranger. He knew you or you knew of him. When you were feeling down when Daryl was around, you could be assured he would brighten up your day. He was truly loved and is greatly missed by many.

In addition to his mother, he leaves to cherish loving memories: a brother, James Robert Davis, a sister, Tina Davis, two nieces, Natalie and Rihanna Davis all of the home; an aunt, Linda Logan of Gaffney; an uncle, John Davis of Gaffney and a host of other relatives and friends. 

The Funeral Service will be Saturday, July 27that 1:00 p.m., in Gilmore Mortuary Chapel with Rev. Clarence Davis officiating. Interment will follow in the Oakland cemetery. He will be in state in the chapel at noon.

Larry Alfred Montgomery, Sr.

Larry Alfred Montgomery, Sr., 76, of 512 Hetty Hill Street, passed away Thursday, July 18th, in Cherokee Medical Center. 

He was the son of the late Crawley and Minnie Mae Dawkins Montgomery and the husband of Diane Littlejohn Montgomery.

Larry was a member and Trustee of Mt. Zion Baptist Church.  He was a veteran of the United States Air Force and a retired automobile salesman.  

He was preceded in death by his parents and two siblings, Forest Montgomery and Brenda Montgomery. 

 He leaves to cherish loving memories: his wife, Diane Montgomery of the home; a son, Larry A. Montgomery, Jr. of Gaffney; a daughter, Karen Montgomery of Las Vegas, NV; one grandchild, Karrington Montgomery of Las Vegas, NV; sisters-in-law, Annie P. Fernanders, Margaret Crate, Nancy Teresa Littlejohn, Shirley (Stanley) Dawkins, Nannie (Reggie) Williams, Neva (James) Gray, and Elizabeth Montgomery; brothers-in-law, Steven Lee Littlejohn and Toby C. Littlejohn; and a host of other relatives and friends.

The Funeral Service will be Wednesday, July 24th, 3:00 p.m., in Mt. Zion Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. A. L. Brackett officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. He will be in state in the church Wednesday at 2:00 p.m.

Billie Sue Shippy McFadden

Mrs. Billie Sue Shippy McFadden, 80, of 409 Hetty Hill St., passed away Friday, July 12, in her home.

She was born in Cherokee County by the late Nathanial and Susie Hill Whittenburg and widow of David McFadden.

She was a member and missionary of Mt. Sinai Missionary Baptist Church.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her brother; El William Turner and four sisters; Gracie Mae Brannon, Maggie Whittenburg Littlejohn, Beatrice McClure, and Alice I. Whittenburg.

She leaves to cherish loving memories: her daughter, Ruby Shippy Davis of the home; two stepdaughters, Synetria Davis of Columbia, Daa’Iyah Plaskett (Ralph) of Raleigh, N.C.; five grandchildren, Donel Webster, Jada and Aiden Davis, Erin and Ethan Plaskett and a host of special nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

The Funeral Service will be Thursday, July 18, at 2 p.m. in Mt. Sinai Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. C. A. Wallace officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

She will be in state in the church Thursday at 1 p.m.
