Mrs. Shirley Johnson Posey

Mrs. Shirley Johnson Posey, 65, of 117 White Wood Drive, Cowpens, SC, passed away Tuesday, May 4, 2021, in Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System.

Widow of Wilbert Posey, she was born in Cherokee County and was a daughter of the late Avis and Sophia McGill Johnson.

Shirley was a member of Piney Grove Baptist Church where she served as a deaconess, usher, and member of the culinary committee. She was a retired employee of Limestone Mills.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by a sister, Oceleen Houey. She leaves to cherish loving memories: two daughters, Michelle Horne (Jeremy), of Wellford, SC, Terrika Shippy, of Spartanburg, SC; a son, Tommy Johnson, of Moore, SC; sister, Laverne Johnson, of Cowpens; brothers, Elvis Johnson (Debra), of Spartanburg, Billy McGill, of Spartanburg, and Larry McGill, of New York; a special friend, Pablo Rivera, of Cowpens; grandchildren, Whitney Byers, Britanica Johnson, Roniyah Tate, Terrayah Tate, and Ronnie Tate, Jr.; great-grandchild, Ariah Dawkins; nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.

The Funeral Service will be held on Monday, May 10, 2021, at 1:00 p.m., in Piney Grove Baptist Church, Cowpens, with Rev. Derrick Green officiating and Rev. Dennis Rector, Eulogist. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

The family is at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Michelle and Jeremy Horne, 482 Silver Thorne Drive, Wellford, SC.

Master Sgt. Retired, Lewis M.C. Davis

Master Sgt. Retired, Lewis M.C. Davis, 72, of 107 Moss Street, Gaffney, SC, passed away Sunday, May 2nd, in his home.

He was born in Cherokee County and was a son of late Ebb and Bessie Linder Davis.

Lewis was an Aircraft Mechanic in United States Army. He served in the Vietnam War, He was a member of Glory to Glory Christian Church where he served as an Acting Deacon, member of the Pastoral Staff, and Intercessory Prayer Team.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by 8 siblings: George William Davis, clara Davis, Mary Fernanders, Amogene Byers, Christine Reaves, Alice Davis, Ezera Thonpson, and Rebecca Davis.

He leaves to cherish loving memories: a daughter, April Phillips, of Gaffney, SC; two sisters, Parnice D. Jefferies (James), Burdie Ann Barnett(Samuel), of Gaffney, SC; a host of other relatives and friends.

Public Viewing– Friday from 12:00 – 6:00 p.m.

Graveside Service will be held Saturday, May 8, 2021, at 12:00 noon, in Mt. Sinai Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family is at the home of his niece and nephew, Bessie and Paul Littlejohn, 748 Northgate Road, Gaffney, SC!

John Edward Phillips

Mr. John Edward Phillips, 75, 132 McDowell St., Mooresboro, NC, formerly of Gaffney, passed away Saturday, May 1, 2021 in Charles George V.A. Medical Center, Asheville, NC.

Widower of Patricia Price Phillips, he was born in Gaffney and was a son of the late William and Lonnie Phillips Humphries. John was a member of Suck Creek Baptist Church, a veteran of the United States Army and a retired Supervisor at Burlington Industries.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was predeceased by: two brothers, Clyde Phillips and Cornell Humphries, and a sister, Macie Mayes.

He leaves to cherish loving memories: a son, Nick Phillips (Crystal), of Hickory, NC; two brothers, Spencer Humphries, of Gaffney, SC., and Gaither Humphries, of Boiling Springs, NC; a grandchild, Xavier Phillips; a host of other relatives and friends.

Public Viewing– Friday from 12:00 – 6:00 p.m.

Funeral Service will be held Saturday, May 8, 2021, at 3:00 p.m., in the Gilmore Mortuary Chapel with the Rev. Tony Macomson officiating. Inurnment will be held at a later date.
