Mr. Benjamin S. Coleman

Benjamin S. Coleman, 69, of 614 Marion Avenue, passed away Saturday, November 14, 2020 in Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.

He was born in Cherokee County, South Carolina, September 2, 1951 to William Thomas “W.T.” and Genell Corry Coleman.

Benjamin was a graduate of Gaffney High School, “Class of 1969” and a 1973 graduate of South Carolina State College. He was a member of Limestone Missionary Baptist Church and served as a trustee and usher. Benjamin was employed as a Cherokee County Tax Assessor.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Tracey Coleman; two sisters, Mamie Coleman and Gwendolyn Coleman Reid Fincher.

He leaves to cherish loving memories: two sons, Darius Buckson of Aberdeen, MD and Trent Coleman (Audbree) of Greenville, SC; a brother, William Thomas (Gerald) of East Orange, NJ; 4 grandchildren; a host of other relatives and friends.

A PublicViewing will be held on Thursday, November 19, 2020, from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m., in The Gilmore Mortuary. A Graveside Service will be held Friday, at 11:00 a.m., in Oakland Cemetery with Rev. Michael Golden and Rev. Arthur J. Smith.

Ms. Dollie Gale Pearson

Ms. Dollie Gale Pearson, 78, of 205 Peachtree St., passed away Thursday, November 12, 2020 in Greer Rehabilitation Healthcare.

She was born in Cherokee County, South Carolina on April 12, 1942 to Guywion and Mary Burris Pearson.

She was a member of Shady Grove Baptist Church and retiree of Super 8 housekeeping .

Dollie was predeceased by her parents, Guywion Pearson and Mary Burris Pearson; three siblings, Mattie Pearson, Willie Jean Pearson and John Henry Burris.

She leaves to cherish loving memories: three sons, Jermaine Fletcher Pearson (Pamela), Jamie Jerome Pearson and Bryant O’Neal Pearson (Brandi) all of Gaffney; four brothers, Guy Junior Pearson (Ann) of Atlanta, Herbert Burris, Sammie Lee Pearson, and Charles Pearson all of Gaffney; four sisters, Lula Mae Cureton of Forest City, Sarah P. Keeter, Louise Pearson and Amy Pearson all of Gaffney; 7 grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral Services will be held Friday, November 20, 2020, at 3:00 p.m., in Shady Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. Lee Byers officiating. She will lie in state at 2:00 p.m. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Gwendolette Halsey Dawkins

Mrs. Gwendolette Halsey Dawkins passed away Sunday, November 15, 2020 in her residence.

Wife of Elywin Dawkins, she was born October 15, 1950 in Cherokee County, SC. to Lula and Robert Halsey.

Gwendolette was a 1968 graduate of Granard High School, a graduate of Claflin College, and a retiree of the Cherokee County Department of Social Services. She was a veteran of the U.S. Army and a member of Grace Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her father, Robert Halsey; mother, Lula Gaffney Oglesby; and step-father Frank Homer Oglesby.

She leaves to cherish loving memories: her husband, Elywin Dawkins; three sons, Roderick Oglesby, Sr. (Joyce) and Cedric Dowdle both of Gaffney, Elywin Dawkins, Jr. (Martisha) of Prosper, TX; a daughter; Kamika Dawkins of Boiling Spring, SC; two brothers, Sammy Halsey and Robert Halsey, Jr. of Chester, SC; a sister, Renee Starks of Chester; 7 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral Service will be held Thursday, November 19, 2020, at 1:00 p.m. in Grace Baptist Church with Pastor Allen Peeler and Rev. Dr. Michael A. Bridges. Military Rites and Entombment will follow in Fredrick Memorial Park at 3:30 p.m.
