Annie Ruth Keenan

Annie Ruth Keenan, 85, of 510 Thompson St., passed away Thursday, March 5th, 2020 in Brookview Healthcare. She was a widow of the late Curley Keenan. She was born in Cherokee County by the late Toy Haywood and Annie Bell Dewberry.

She was a former member of Shady Grove and later joined Holy Temple Baptist Church. She was a member of the Gospel Choir and an Eastern Star.

In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by four sons, Jerry Fernandez, Charles Keenan, David Lee, and Kenny Keenan; a brother, Noah Haywood.

She leaves to cherish loving memories: five sons, Jimmy Keenan (Shana) of Cowpens, SC, Curley Odell of Columbia, SC, Johnny Keenan (Joyce Bell) of Cowpens, SC, Willie Keenan of Gaffney, Vance Keenan of Spartanburg, SC; a daughter, Anita Littlejohn (Bobby) of Spartanburg SC; a sister, Betty Adedoyin (Tony) of Thomasville, NC; eighteen grandchildren; twenty-one great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral Service will be Monday 9th, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. in The Gilmore Mortuary Chapel with Pastor Curtis Mings officiating. Interment will follow in Gaffney Memorial Park.

The family is at the home of her daughter Anita Littlejohn, 1307 Montview St., Spartanburg SC.

James Lee Wood

James Lee Wood, 75, of 4201 W. Hill crest Ave. Dayton Oh., formerly of Gaffney, passed away Friday, February 28th, 2020, in Grandview Hospital in Dayton Ohio. He was a son of the late Deacon Herman Wood and Vianna Savage Wood.

Funeral Service will be Thursday, March 5, 2020 at 11:00 a.m., in Valley Peace Baptist Church, Dayton Ohio with the Rev. Jackie Robinson officiating. Interment will follow in the VA cemetery in Dayton, Ohio. 

Thomas Funeral Home of Trotwood, OH is in charge of arrangements. The family is receiving friends and any condolences at his residences..

Roger Sherman Gaston, Sr.

Roger Sherman Gaston, Sr., 74, of Waterbury, CT. formerly of Gaffney, passed away Sunday, February 9th, 2020, in his home. He was a son of the late Nellie Gaston Corry.

He was born on September 2, 1945 in Norfolk, VA. Roger proudly served his country in the Navy during the Vietnam War. Prior to his retirement, he was a Postal Worker for the Chase Avenue branch of the USPS. He served as the Energy Assistance Coordinator for New Opportunities, Inc. (NOW). He was a member of Mount Olive AME Zion Church, the American Legion Post 135 and Goodwill Lodge of Elks 1325. In his spare time he loved to golf, play cards, travel and sing. Roger is survived by four daughters Monique Mosley and her husband Michael of GA, Chantai Moore of FL, Amy Ratliff and her husband Larry of VA and Angela Andrews and her husband Damon of VA, a son Roger S. Gaston, Jr. and his fiancé Crystal of FL, a sister Dr. Beverly Corry of Gaffney, SC, nine grandchildren Ralik, Xavier, Aubrey, Colby, Dyvarius, Mya, Trey, Cameron and Laila and one great grandson Hosea. He also leaves a special cousin Roberta Gaston Kinion of Waterbury, his former wife Lori Justice of Waterbury, along with several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was predeceased by a brother Hampton Corry.

The funeral will be held at 11 am on Friday, February 14, 2020 at Mount Olive AME Zion Church, 82-100 Pearl Street, Waterbury, CT 06704 with full Military Honors following. A private burial will take place at the CT State Veterans Cemetery at the convenience of the family. Calling hours will be from 10 am until the time of the service. The American Legion Post 135 will be conducting a service at 10:15 am at the church. The Prospect Memorial Funeral Home, 72 Waterbury Rd., Prospect is entrusted with arrangements, with James R. Sanders Funeral Director.
