Mrs. Lucille Fernanders Wood

Mrs. Lucille Fernanders Wood, 90, of 805 W. Fairview Avenue, passed away Thursday, December 5th, 2019, in her home.

Widow of Deacon Herman Wood, she was born in Buncombe County, NC and was a daughter of the late Calvin and Emmaline Morris Fernanders.

She was a 1947 graduate of Granard High School. She was a member of Mt. Sinai Missionary Baptist Church where she served as a Sunday School Teacher, president of Christian Leaders Missionary, president of the Vernon Choir, co-organizer of the Junior Choir, father, and member of the Usher Board.

Mrs. Wood was a former Nurse’s Aide at Cherokee County Hospital. She was a member of Heroines of Jericho Tryon Court #8, Order of the Eastern Star, and president of the Social Savings Club.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by: a daughter Catherine Wood Shuler; three brothers, Shedrick Morris, Charlie and Anderson Fernanders; reared in the home as brothers, Remus and Sammy Morris, Lewis Lipscomb, and James Fernanders; grandson Calvin Wood; great-grandson, Aaron Shuler; and son in-law, David L. Littlejohn.

She leaves cherish memories to: two daughters, Emma Grant (Johnny) and Mildred Littlejohn, all of Gaffney; a son, Herman Dennis Wood, Sr. (Fatina) of Gaffney; grandchildren, Hermia D. Wood, Ikie Curry, Herman Dennis Wood, II, Charlieka D. Littlejohn, Baxter Derrell Wood, and Elder Arthur Lee Shuler, Jr.; several great-grandchildren including, Malachi Wood and William Sherard Camp, reared in the home.

The Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, 2:00 p.m., in Mt. Sinai Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. C.A. Wallace officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. She will be in state in the church Saturday at 1:00 p.m.

Mrs. Debra Kay Haney Byars

Mrs. Debra Kay Haney Byars, 62, of 305 Ozell Avenue, passed away Thursday November 22nd at her residence.

Wife of Dean Ray Byars, she was born in Spartanburg and was the daughter of Helen Butler Camp and the late Aaron Fair. She was raised by the late Tom and Selena Haney.

Debra Kay was a 1975 graduate of Gaffney High School. She was a member of Encounter Church where she was a soloist on the Praise Team. She was a former employee of Duke Energy.

She was preceded in death by a brother Willie Lee Camp.

In addition to her mother: she is survived by a son, Sgt. Aaron B Haney (Coco) of 29 Palms, CA; two daughters, Portia Haney (Carlton) of Gaffney and Halina Wright (Rodrich) of Boiling Springs; three step-sons, Dean Williams, of West Virginia, Dean Robinson of New York, and Nathan Peak of Gaffney; a special daughter, Gwen Galmon (Maurice) of Gaffney; two brothers, Vernon and Marvin Camp of Gaffney ; nine sisters, Selena Haney (Glen), Ella Camp, Sarah Jean Camp, Wilma Ann Camp, Carol Camp, Bobbie Jefferies, Dorothy T. Littlejohn ( Charlie) , Margaret Fair Glenn (Larry), and Teressa Fair, all of Gaffney; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

The Funeral Service will be Saturday, 2:00 p.m., in Encounter Church with Pastor Joey Turner officiating. She will be in state at 1:00 p.m. Interment will be in Oakland Cemetery.

Louis Curtis Davis

Louis Curtis Davis, 87, of 1000 E. Main Street, Spartanburg, passed away Thursday, November 14, 2019, in Spartanburg Regional Healthcare.

Widower of Christine Dawkins Davis, he was born in Gaffney and was a son of the late Wallace and Corrie Terrell Davis.

He was a retired employee of Daniel Construction Company.

He was predeceased by three children, Wallace Davis, Louise Peak, and Mary Davis; siblings, Minnie Pearl Lindsay, Essie Hopper, Inez Kershaw, Inet Wilkins, Sarah Davis, Bertha Lee Phillips, Robert, Frank, and Otis Davis, and Nathaniel Tate.

Surviving are: sons, Rev. Louis J. Davis (Catherine), of Gaffney, Lewis C. Davis and Johnson Davis, both of Spartanburg; daughters, Betty Covington, Margaret Davis, Gloria Smith (Bobby), and Laura Davis, all of Gaffney, Delores Davis, of Chicago, IL, Alice Howard (Jimmy Lee), and Rosa Mary Pearson (Bobby), of Spartanburg; two sisters, Perniece Conway, of Lexington Park, MD, Flossie Mae Wilkins, of Gaffney; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

A Memorial Service will be held Wednesday, 2:00 p.m., in The Gilmore Mortuary Chapel with Rev. Louis J. Davis officiating. The family is at the home of Rev. and Mrs. Louis Davis, 527 Oakland Ave.
