Mrs. Betty Jo Humphries Holmes

Betty Jo Humphries Holmes, 63, of 224 Camellia Circle, passed away Saturday, November 9, 2019, in Mountainview Nursing Home, Spartanburg, SC.

Wife of Abraham Holmes, she was born in Cherokee County and was a daughter of the late Booker T. and Lunette Morris Humphries.

She was a member of Mt. Sinai Baptist Church and a former employee of Duke Energy.

Surviving are: her husband, Abraham Holmes, of the home; a son, Quinton Holmes, of Gaffney; a daughter, Latunya Holmes-Copeland (Craig), of Jacksonville, FL; two sisters, Rosemary Johnson, of Greenville, and Rita Mae Twitty (Monroe), of Chesnee; two grandchildren, Paris Holmes, of Atlanta, GA and Dreylan Holmes, of Columbia, SC.

A Memorial Service will be held Thursday, 2:00 p.m., in The Gilmore Mortuary Chapel with Rev. C.A. Wallace officiating.

John (J.W.) Wesley Johnson, Sr.

John Wesley Johnson, Sr., 90, of Greenville, formerly of Gaffney, passed away Saturday, November 9, 2019, in Brushy Creek Rehabilitation Center, Greer, SC.

Surviving are: his wife, Lisa Jarvis Johnson, of the home; daughters, Doris Norwood, of Florence, MS, Jill Woodard, of Georgia, Alexis Earl and Nicole Johnson, of the home; four sons, John Johnson, Jr., of Springfield, MO, Christopher Johnson, of Myrtle Beach, SC, Isaiah Earl of the home; 10 grandchildren.

James H. Hoey, Sr.

James Harold Hoey, Sr., 82, of 303 Granite Drive, passed away Sunday, November 3, 2019, in his home.

Husband of Jacqueline Foster Hoey, he was born in Gaffney and was a son of the late Precious Hoey, Sr, and Willie M. Kelly Hoey.

He was a 1956 graduate of Granard High School and a retired employee of Overnite Trucking Company. James was a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church where he served as a deacon, member of the All Male Choir, and Sr. Choir.

He was preceded in death by a step-son, Rogerick Lowry; and siblings, Precious Hoey, Jr., William H. Hoey; a son-in-law, Anthony Mintz. He leaves to cherish fond memories: his wife, Jacqueline, of the home; a son, James Harold Hoey (Cynthia), of Spartanburg; daughters, Harriet Williams (Charles), and Donna Mintz, of Gaffney, Lakisa Muhammad (Dewayne) of Phoenix, AZ; two sisters, Ethelene Davidson and Martha Jean Jefferies, both of Gaffney; 11 grandchildren 4 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

The Funeral Service will be Friday, 2:00 p.m., in Ebenezer Baptist Church with Rev. Freddy Davidson and Rev. Michael Golden. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.  He will be in state in the church Friday at 1:00 p.m.
