Dorothy Knuckles Sizemore

Dorothy Knuckles Sizemore, 94, of 230 Camellia Circle, Gaffney, passed away Friday, June 23, 2023, in The Peachtree Centre. Widow of Grady Sizemore, Sr., she was born in Cherokee County and was a daughter of the late
Fred and Leatha Smith Knuckles.
She was a member of Philadelphia Baptist Church and served as a former usher and missionary. Dorothy was also preceded in death by three children, David and Matthew Sizemore, and Ruby Brown; and siblings, Cornell and James Knuckles, and Hilton Smith. She leaves to cherish loving memories: two sons, John W. Knuckles, of Spartanburg, SC, Grady
Sizemore, Jr. (Donna), of Scottsdale, AZ; three daughters, Luvenia Sizemore and Angelia Dawkins, both of Gaffney, Denise Otey, of Atlanta, GA; sisters, Bernice Fowler, of Gaffney and Straucy Scippio (Bill), of NJ; ten grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; other relatives and friends.


A Funeral Service will be held Saturday, July 1, 2023, at 1:00 p.m., in Philadelphia Baptist Church with The Reverend Danny Burnside officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
The family is receiving friends at the home of her daughter, Luvenia, 505 Browning Road.

Martha Jean Crate Houey

Martha Jean Houey, 80, of 349 Estelle Road, Gaffney, passed away Saturday, June 17th, in her home.

Widow of Eyules Jerome Houey, she was born in Gaffney and was a daughter of the late Charlie Crate and the late Gracie Jefferies Crate Galmer.

Martha was a member of Concord Baptist Church.  She was a retiree of Gaffney Manufacturing.

She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Marilyn Houey; seven siblings, Charles, Rickey Dean, and George Arthur Crate, Barbara Ann, Catherine, Lavon, and Henry Galmer; and a grandchild, Debries “Breezy” Houey.

She leaves to cherish loving memories: three daughters, Teressa Tate (Wayne), Tela Felder, and Rose Houey, all of Gaffney; a sister, Diane Mayberry, of Gaffney; ten grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren; an aunt, Terriza Jefferies, of Silver Spring, MD; sisters-in-law, Sallie Houey Vivian Houey, Annie Byers, Margaret Crate, and Ray Lou Wallace; other relatives and friends.

A Funeral Service will be held Friday, June 23rd, 1:00 p.m., in Concord Baptist Church with The Reverend Dr. Michael Bridges officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

The family is receiving friends at the residence.

Gladys Hunter Johnson

Gladys Ruth Johnson, 86, of 343 McGinnis Road, Cowpens, SC, passed away Wednesday, June 14, 2023 in Lake Emory Nursing Home, Inman, SC.

Widow of Melia Roger Johnson, Sr., she was born in Iva, SC and was a daughter of the late Trossie and Addie Tucker Hunter.

She was a member of Island Creek Baptist Church.

Gladys was predeceased by siblings, T.C., II, Jacob, Bennie, and Lincoln Hunter and Tecora Oliver.

Surviving are: a son, Melia Roger Johnson, Jr., of Spartanburg, SC; a daughter, Eureka Johnson, of Cowpens; a brother, Columbus Hunter, of Cowpens; sisters, Ceola Posey, of Spartanburg, Ruby Mae Brackett, of Cowpens, and Judy Foster, of Sicklerville, NJ; granddaughter, Chisa J. Putman; great-grandchildren, B. Dmitri Putman, II, Addilyn, and Hunter Grace Putman, all of Rock Hill, SC; brother-in-law, James O. Johnson (Venita), of Upper Marlboro, MD; sisters-in-law, Elaine Hunter, of Gaffney and Barbara McNair, of Pleasantville, MD.

A Funeral Service will be held Thursday, June 22nd, 1:00 p.m. in Island Creek Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. Timothy L. Hunter officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m., in The Gilmore Mortuary.
