Joyce Ann Wood

Joyce Ann Wood, 70, of 701 Littlejohn Street, Gaffney, passed away Friday, March 31, 2023, in her home.

She was born in Gaffney and was a daughter of the late Peggy Hemphill and the late Billy Wood.

Joyce was a 1971 graduate of Gaffney High School. She was a member of Bethel Baptist Church and a retiree of Gaffney Manufacturing and Nestle.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister Hazel Wood Savage, and two grandchildren, Demetrius Wood and Miaja Wood.

She leaves to cherish loving memories: three daughters, Kristy Fowler (Lincoln), Casey Wood and Tori Wood, all of Gaffney; an uncle, James “Goat” Hemphill, of Gaffney; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; a host of other relatives and friends.

A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, April 8th, 2:00 p.m., in The Gilmore Mortuary Chapel with Minister Jennifer Hemphill officiating. Interment will follow in Oakland Cemetery.

Destiny Sharnae Tate, 29, of 200 Three Oaks Road, Cowpens, died Wednesday, March 29th, in Spartanburg Medical Center.

A Funeral Service will be held Tuesday, April 4th, in Piney Grove Baptist Church in Cowpens with The Reverend C. Dennis Rector.

Jake L. Jefferies

J. L. “Jake” Jefferies, 84, of 406 Hetty Hill Street, Gaffney, passed away Thursday, March 23, 2023, in Palmetto Patriots Home, Gaffney, SC.

Widower of Velma Tyler Jefferies, he was born in Cherokee County and was a son of Johnny Sr. and Mary I.V. Jefferies.

Jake was a graduate of Granard High School, a veteran of the United States Air Force, and a Baptist. He was a retired delivery truck driver of Byars Medical Delivery Service.

In addition to his parents and wife he was preceded in death by a son, Frankie Jefferies; siblings, Virginia Jefferies, Daisy Wallace, Margaret Davis, Sylvia Parker, Johnny, Claude, Albert and Lewis Jefferies.

He leaves to cherish loving memories: three son, Lang Crosby and Eric Coleman, both of Gaffney, SC, Jeff Coleman (Andrea), of Charlotte, NC; five daughters, Claudia Johnson and Sybil Bridges, both of Gaffney, Roxanne Jefferies, of Opelousas, LA, Patrice Smith (Patrick), of Boiling Springs, SC, and Faye Crosby, of Boiling Springs, SC; two brothers, Joaquion Jefferies, of Gaffney, SC, and Robert Neal (Leecie), of Charleston, SC; four sisters, Thelma Davidson, of Gaffney, SC, Doris Watson, of Spartanburg, SC, Ramos Gordon and Belvar Studyvance (Edmond), both of Gaffney, SC; raised as a daughter, Jonetta Jefferies, of Layfayetta, LA; an aunt, Carolean Adams, of Charlotte, NC; a host of grands, great grands, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, March 30th, at 12:00 noon, in The Gilmore Mortuary Chapel with Minister John Jamison officiating.  Interment will follow in Oakland Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the home of his daughter, Sybil Bridges, 406 Hetty Hill Street, from 2:00 to 6:00 p.m. daily.
