Mrs. Gloria Gaston Tate

Gloria Gaston Tate, 88, of 105 Ashley Street, Gaffney, SC, passed away Thursday, February 23rd, in her home.

Wife of Jay Walter Tate, she was born in Cherokee County, SC to James Campfield Gaston and Annie Mae Spears Gaston.

She was a member of Limestone Missionary Baptist Church.  She was a 1951 graduate of Granard High School and a retiree of the Cherokee County School System.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Darrell Tate, and a grandchild, Miranda Latoya Tate.

She leaves to cherish loving memories: her husband, Jay Walter Tate, of the home; two sons, Harold Tate, of Gaffney, SC and Jay Walter Tate, Jr., of Simpsonville, SC; a brother, James “June” Campfield Gaston, Jr., of Gaffney, SC; six grandchildren; fourteen great- grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; a host of other relatives and friends.

A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, March 1st, 2:00 p.m., in Mt. Tabor Baptist Church with The Rev. Darrell Smith officiating.  Interment will follow in the Church Cemetery.

Margaret Wilson Evans

Mrs. Margaret Wilson Evans, 85, of 1911 Martin Luther King Drive, Vicksburg, MS, passed away Sunday, February 19th, in the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Robbin and Notton Jones, 1001 South Petty Street, Gaffney.

She was born in Vicksburg and was a daughter of the late Jim and Clara Woods Wilson.

Mrs. Evans was a member of Pleasant Hill Missionary Baptist Church in Vicksburg.

She was predeceased b her parents and two of her children. She leaves to cherish loving memories: nine children; 30 grandchildren; a host of great-grandchildren; nine siblings, other relatives and friends.

A Funeral Service will be held on March 4th, in Pleasant Hill Missionary Baptist Church by C J Williams Mortuary Services, Vicksburg MS. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Nancy Marie Smith Knuckles

Nancy Marie Smith Knuckles, age 73, of 611 Kendrick St., Gaffney, passed away Saturday, February 18th, in Spartanburg Medical Center.

Wife of Mack Knuckles, she was born in Cherokee County, SC and was a daughter of the late Nobie and Rosa Lee Wood Smith.

She was a graduate of Granard High School in Gaffney. She also graduated from the Wilfred Academy of Cosmetology in Philadelphia, PA and received an Associate Degree in Cosmetology. After graduation, she later became an instructor at the Academy. After moving back to Gaffney, she was employed by the Cherokee County School District as a School Bus Monitor.

Nancy was a member and deaconess of Suck Creek Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by: brothers, James Wood, Lindsay Smith, and Samuel Smith; step-daughters, Denay Jackson and Priscilla Moore; step-son, Marvin Guyton; and a sister-in-law, Daisy Helen Smith.

She leaves to cherish loving memories: her husband, Mack Knuckles, of the home; two daughters, Tuesday Jackson and Nina Robinson, both of Gaffney; a brother, Fredrick “Bear” Smith, of Spartanburg, SC; two sisters, Ruth Rodgers (Blakely), of Gaffney and Rose Mary Evans (Gary), of Sacramento, CA; sisters-in-law, Jackie Smith Bebee, of Utah, Delia Ballard, Juanita Watkins, Dorothy Tate, Neller Hardy, Johnnie Mae Knuckles, Parnice Knuckles; brother-in-law, Cossie B. Knuckles, all of Gaffney; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.

A Funeral Service will be held Thursday, February 23rd, at 1:00 p.m., in The Gilmore Mortuary Chapel with The Rev. Tony Makupson and The Rev. Horace Jefferies.
