William Irving Peterson

William Irving Peterson (Buck) entered life on August 24, 1951 in Hopewell, VA.

He transitioned on August 16, 2022 in Gaffney, SC. He is preceded in death by his parents; mother, Beulah Horne and father, William Peterson and biological father, Curtis Blanding Sr.; sister, Peggy Williams; brother, Jerome Peterson (Keystone); nephew, Ricky Williams (Luke); grandson: Raekwon Givens.

“Buck” received an education in the City of Hopewell Public School System. He worked as a Supply Supervisor at John Randolph Hospital. He loved music “Earth, Wind, and Fire” was his favorite group. All who knew and loved him will surely miss him and his presence.

“Buck” leaves behind to cherish his memories daughters: Jewell Blizzard of Hopewell, VA; Glenita (Charles) White of Clarksville, TN; step-daughter: Anita (Stacy) Hayes of Raleigh, NC; granddaughter: Ahjahne Blizzard of Hopewell, VA; great-grandson: Zyion Blizzard of Hopewell, VA, sister: Maebell Claiborne Prince George, VA; brothers: Curtis Blanding Jr. Prince George, VA, Olen (Sharon) Peterson of Dorchester, MA; nieces: Tabatha Horne of Providence,RI and Ageena Peterson of Dorchester, MA; nephews: Andre Johnson of Dallas, TX, Akil and Jameel Peterson of Dorchester, MA; close friend: Bobby Kelly and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Funeral Service will be held Friday, August 26th, at 2:00 p.m., in The Gilmore Mortuary Chapel with the Rev. Dr. Timothy L. Hunter officiating. 

Novella Mae “Jack ” Oglesby


Novella Mae Oglesby, affectionately known as “Jack”, passed on Monday, August, 8, 2022, in Spartanburg Medical Center.

She was born in Cherokee County, South Carolina on February, 13, 1950 to Stanyard Oglesby and Dorothy Mae Green Oglesby.

Ms. Oglesby was a member of Concord Baptist Church. She obtained an Associate Degree from The U.S. Aviation Academy in St. Paul, MN.

“Jack” was preceded in death by her parents, Stanyard Oglesby and Dorothy Mae Green Oglesby Bonner and siblings, Janice, Annie, Creola, Sarah, Claudette, Herman Jr., and M.C. Bonner.

She leaves to cherish loving memories: her sisters, Fernina Oglesby Smith, of the home, Angela Norris (Clarence), of Gaffney, SC; step-sister, Minnie Bonner, of Gaffney, SC; her brothers, John Charles Oglesby, of the home, Ronald Oglesby (Betty), of Gaffney, SC, Donald Oglesby, of New Jersey, Larry Oglesby (Debra), of Gaffney, SC, Randy Oglesby, of Portland, OR; step-brother, Nero Bonner, Gaffney, SC; sisters-in-law, Alice Bonner and Ella Bonner;  a special friend of 47yrs, Brenda Anthony, of Jackson, MS and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

A Graveside Service will be held Thursday, August 11, 2022, at 11:00 a.m., in the Concord Baptist Church Cemetery, with the Rev. Dr. Michael A. Bridges officiating.


Vincent Lopez Wilkins

Minister Vincent Lopez Wilkins, 52, of 419 W. Birnie Street, Gaffney, passed away Friday, August 8, 2022, in his home.

He was born in Gaffney and was a son of Mrs. Mary Ann Gibbs Wilkins and the late Mandret Wilkins, Sr.

Vincent was a graduate of Gaffney High School and furthered his education at Winthrop College, Rock Hill, SC.

He was a member of Bethel Baptist Church where he served in several capacities, including: Associate Minister; Helping Hands Ministry; Youth Committee; Men’s Ministry, Bethel All Male Chorus, Generations of Praise, and Bethel Baptist Church Choir.

He was a member of the Key of G and One Accord Singing Groups. He also was a member of the NAACP and a volunteer for ATWA.

He was predeceased by his father and a brother, Kenneth Oglesby. He leaves to cherish loving memories: his mother, Mrs. Mary Ann Wilkins, of the home; brothers, Ricky Robbs, of Gaffney, and Mandret Wilkins, Jr., of San Diego, CA; sisters, Jacqueline Hinkson (Levi), of New Jersey, Cathy Martin, of Charlotte, NC, Clarissa Epps, of Gastonia, NC, Natalie Cannon and Donna Davidson (Robert), both of Gaffney; god-sister, Kim Littlejohn, of Gaffney; god-children, Brandy Douglas, of Spartanburg, Narayana Rodgers, of MD, and Shaneilous Logan, of Gaffney; other relatives and friends.

A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, August 13th, 1:00 p.m., in Bethel Baptist Church with Dr. James Sanders, Jr., officiating. Interment will follow in Oakland Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the home until 8:00 p.m. daily. Thanks for your understanding.
