Ms. Dorothy Bee Tate

Ms. Dorothy Bee Tate, 78, of 510 Northgate Rd. passed away Friday, April 6, 2018, in Peachtree Centre, Gaffney SC.

She was born in Gaffney on January 10, 1940 to Lawrence and Pearlie Mae Oglesby Tate.

Dorothy was a member of the Granard High School Class of 1961. She was a retired employee of TNS Mills.

She was a member at Mt. Sinai Missionary Baptist Church where she was served on The Mass Choir, The Gospel Choir, Sunday School and Bible Study Group.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Rev. L.T. Tate; and a sister, Merlee Mobley.

Surviving are: two brothers, Howard Tate (Louenia) of Shelby, NC and Wallace Tate (Donna) of Gaffney; two sisters, Ms. Brenda Tate and Mrs. Josephine Wilkins, both of Gaffney; other relatives and friends.

Funeral Services will be Thursday, April 12, 3 p.m. in Mt. Sinai Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. C. A. Wallace officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

She will be in state in the church Thursday at 2 p.m.

Gerald Augustus Scott

Gerald Augustus Scott, 74, of 215 Mill Street, passed away Thursday, March 22, 2018, in Spartanburg Regional Medical Center, Spartanburg, South Carolina.

He was born in Clarendon, Jamaica on March 26, 1943 to Gerald Scott, Sr. and Tremel Reid.

Gerald was a devoted father, brother, grandfather, and friend. He loved his family and fellow-man and was always willing to lend a helping hand. We thank God for blessing us with Gerald in our life. He was employed as a cook at Friendly’s Restaurant.

He was preceded in death by his father and a daughter, Lisha Scott.

Surviving are: his mother, Mrs. Tremel Reid of Bronx, NY; a son, Chris Patterson of Gaffney, SC; a daughter, Sherry Patterson of NY; two sisters, Donna Cottrell and Janette Scarlett, both of Bronx, NY; two brothers, Dalston Scarlett and Devon Scarlett, of Bronx, NY; son-in-law, Cecil Morgan, Sr. of Gaffney; 3 grandchildren, including Precious Morgan of the home, Terrell Patterson and Passion Patterson, both of Gaffney; 4 great-grandchildren; 24 nieces and nephews; 13 grand-nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.

Funeral Services will be Wednesday, 3:00 p.m., in the Gilmore Mortuary Chapel with Rev. James Ponder officiating.

Minnie Carol Gibbs

Ms. Minnie Carol Gibbs passed away Thursday, March 22, 2018, in Tucker Health Care Home, Columbia, SC.

She was born in Gaffney, SC on December 3, 1938, to Rev. Jesse Gibbs, Sr., and Mrs. Minnie Hemphill Gibbs.

Minnie joined Limestone Baptist Church at an early age and later in life, she became a member of Mitchell Chapel Holiness Church. She was a member of Granard High School Class of 1956, and later received her High School Diploma from the Gaffney High School Adult Education Program. She received an Associate Degree from Spartanburg Technical College. She was a member of the Marionettes Gospel Singing Group, regular performers on the Foster Funeral Home Sunday Morning Radio Program.

Minnie was a vivacious and loving person; never meeting anyone as a stranger. For many years, she was employed as Household Technician for the family of the late Dr. John H. Cathcart, Jr.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a son, Kenneth Renard Gibbs, and a brother, Robert Edward Gibbs.

Surviving are; five sons, Ricky Gibbs, Daryl Gibbs, John Michael Gibbs, Tony Darnell Gibbs, and Keith Bernard Gibbs, all of Gaffney; three sisters, Mrs. Mary Ann Wilkins and Ms. Belinda Sheryl Gibbs, both of Gaffney, Ms. Elayne Gibbs McKenzie of Forestville, MD; three brothers, Jesse Gibbs, Jr. Herbert Gibbs, and Thomas Gibbs, all of Gaffney; aunts, Mrs. Lillie Ellen Thornton of Flint, MI, and Mrs. Gwendolyn Hemphill of Gaffney; sixteen grandchildren; twenty-eight great-grandchidren; nieces; nephews; other relatives and many friends.

Funeral Services will be Tuesday, 3:00 p.m., in the Gilmore Mortuary Chapel with Rev. James W. Sanders, Jr. officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery.
