Wanda Davidson Hush

Wanda Davidson Hush, 65, of 446 East Jr. High Road, Gaffney, South Carolina, entered eternal rest Thursday, January 18th, in her home.

She was born in Gaffney, South Carolina and was the daughter of the late Roy D. Thompson and Jessie Lee Davidson.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Priscilla Mack.

Surviving are: her husband, Odus Hush, of the home a daughter, Charlina (John) Martinez of Louisville, Kentucky ; a son, Dean (Elizabeth) Gaffney of Gaffney, SC; two sisters Cheryl Davidson of Gaffney, Patricia Davidson Hamilton of Greenville, SC; a brother, Samuel Lewis Davidson of Gaffney, SC, eight grandchildren and twenty-two great grandchildren and a host of relatives.

Bennie Alvin Hunter

Bennie Alvin Hunter, 86, of 127 Johnson Rd., Cowpens, answered the Master’s call January 13, 2018 in McCall Hospice House, Simpsonville, S.C.

He was a son of the late Trossie C. Hunter Sr. and the late Addie Tucker Hunter.

He is survived by a daughter, Luberta (Garcia) Gilmore, of Greenville, S.C.; two grandsons, Marcus (Brandie) and Michael (April) Gilmore, of Charlotte, N.C. and 3 Great-Grandchildren Camden, Aaron, and Lauren; 3 brothers Jacob C. Hunter Sr., of Spartanburg, Columbus Hunter, of Cowpens and Lincoln (Elaine) Hunter, of Gaffney; 4 sisters, Ceola Posey, of Spartanburg, Ruby Mae Brackett and Gladys Johnson, of Cowpens, and Judy Foster of Sicklerville, NJ.

Funeral services will be Friday, January 19th at 1:00 pm in the Island Creek Baptist Church, Cowpens. He will be in state in the church at 12:00 noon.

Ms. Betty Ruth Hames Collier

Ms. Betty Ruth Hames Collier, 80, of Blacksburg, South Carolina, entered eternal rest on Friday, January 5, 2018 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.

She was born in Cherokee County and was a Daughter of the late Teacola Hames.

Betty was a graduate of Granard High School and a retired employee from Hamrick’s of Gaffney.

She gave her life to Christ at an early age and was a long-time member of Trinity A.M.E. Zion Church. There she served as deaconess, Sunday School Superintendent and teacher, Christian Education Director, conference worker, church musician, missionary and, most of all, a disciple of Christ.

She is preceded in death by her brother Bobby Joe Hames.

She leaves to cherish loving memories; three sons, Kenneth (Ruby) of Gaffney, Melvin of the home (Zondral of Gaffney), and Darryl (Cheryl) of Greer; two sisters, Ruby Hames of Blacksburg and Maggie Fields of Richmond, VA; grandchildren, Kenya and Ryan Hames, Ethan Collier, Jaiden Oliver, and Michelle Bailey (Ricky); great-grandchildren, Taneesha, Ricky, Aiden, and Mya Bailey, and a grand dog Sapphire; ex-husband and life-long friend, Elijah Johnny Collier; sisters in love, Sue Collier, Katherine Eller, and Shirley Whitaker; first cousins, Willie Lewis Hames (Margaret) and Bonnie Tompkins; special family friends, Kathy Ridgeway and Sandra Davis (Larry); and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.

Family will receive friends Saturday, January 13 from 12:30 p.m. until 1 p.m. in Trinity A.M.E. Zion Church.

Funeral services will follow with Rev. Wanalyn Barnett officiating.

Interment will be in Clingman Memorial Gardens.
