Roberta Geraldine Smith Crawford

Roberta Geraldine Smith Crawford was born in Union County, South Carolina on August 2,1931, to Cortez and Ruby Hall Smith.

She was a graduate of Sims High School in Union, SC, and attended several institutions of higher learning, including: Iona College, New Rochelle, NY; Monroe Business Institute and Fashion Institute of Technology in Bronx, NY.

Early in life, she accepted Christ and joined Foster Chapel Baptist Church. After moving to New York City, Roberta joined Coop City Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Sherbon E. Williams. She was a faithful member of the church and Gospel Choir. Roberta loved to sing and was often called upon to lead songs and perform as a soloist for her choir.

She was a retired administrator with Continental Cans Corporation in New York. Roberta delighted in giving to others and supported several charities in New York.

She entered eternal rest on May 30, 2017 in Regeis Care Center in the Bronx, NY. She was preceded in death by her parents, Cortez Smith and Ruby Smith Flowers; step-father, Thomas C. Flowers, Sr.; a son, James E. Smith; grandmother, Rosa Jackson; grandson, Patrick Johnson; a sister, Ruth Hodge; two brothers, Tolden L. Smith and Thomas C. Flowers.

She leaves to cherish many loving memories: a daughter, Patricia Ann Johnson (Ben) of Roebuck, SC; grandson, Rodney Johnson of Pineville, NC; a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.

Funeral services will be Sunday, June 4th, 2 p.m., in Foster Chapel Baptist Church with Rev. William E. Smith officiating.

Allen Goodman Littlejohn

Allen Goodman Littlejohn, 94, of 510 Thompson St., formerly of Detroit, MI, passed away Thursday, April 27, in Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home.

Widower of Hirtsine Neely Littlejohn, he was born in Cherokee County and was a son of the late Carl and Phines Talley Littlejohn.

He was a graduate of Granard High School and South Carolina State College. Allen was a member of Oakland Avenue Missionary Baptist Church in Detroit, an Army Veteran of World War II, and a retired supervisor of Waste Water Management in Detroit.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by siblings: Charlie, Carl, Leroy and Barbara.

Surviving are: a son, Kelly Littlejohn, (Paula) of Snellville, GA; 3 grandchildren; 4 brothers, Hillard Littlejohn and Walter Littlejohn (Leota) of Gaffney, Wilbert Littlejohn of Charlotte, NC, and Wayne Littlejohn (Lydia) of Melbourne, FL; two sisters, Carolyn Jones of Florence, SC and Dorothy Alford of Charlotte, NC; sister-in-law, Toledo Littlejohn of Gaffney; brother-in-law, James Brunson of Florence; and aunt, Hannah Linder of Gaffney.

Funeral Services will be Friday, May 5th at 11:00 a.m., in The Gilmore Mortuary Chapel with Rev. Eric Jarmons officiating. Interment, with Military Honors, will follow at 3:00 p.m., in M.J. Dolly Cooper Veterans Cemetery, Anderson, SC.

Mrs. Ellar Mae Linder Simpson

Mrs. Ellar Mae Linder Simpson, 82, of 414 ½ Peeler Street, passed away April 26th, 2017, in Mary Black Health System- Gaffney.

Widow of Louis Simpson, she was born in Cherokee County and was a daughter of the late Tom and Eloise Tucker Linder.

She was a faithful member of Ebenezer Baptist Church and Bethel Senior Day Care.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by three children, Edward, Laura, and Elizabeth Simpson, and nine siblings, Thomas Jr., William, Wallace, Rufus, Lucas, Allen, and David Linder, Annie Brown and Emma Knuckles.

Surviving are: a son, William Simpson of the home; daughter-in-law, Essie Simpson of Gaffney; 7 grandchildren; nephews, Calvin Linder and Roy Linder (Lisa) of Gaffney; niece, Jean Linder of Gaffney; and a special friend of William, Laura Clark of Gaffney; a host of cousins and friends.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, May 3rd, 2:00 p.m., in The Gilmore Mortuary Chapel with Rev. Freddy Davidson officiating. Interment will be in Ebenezer Baptist Church Cemetery.
