John Calvin “J.C.” Crosby

john-c-crosbyJohn Calvin “J.C.” Crosby, 86, of 523 W Montgomery Street, entered eternal rest on Wednesday, November 11th, in Mary Black Hospital, Gaffney.

Widower of Amogene Roberts Crosby, he was born in Blair, SC and was a son of the late Ben and Charlotte Jackson Crosby.

He was a deacon and Sr. Choir member of Mt. Sinai Baptist Church. Deacon Crosby was also a member of the Community Do-Re-Mi Choir. He was a retired employee of Cone Mills.

Mr. Crosby was preceded in death by: a son, John Charles Crosby; a grandson, Joseph Crosby; 8 siblings, Lemuel Crosby, Mose Crosby, Bennie Frank Crosby, Willie Crosby, Buck Jordan, Clara Watkins, Daisy Lattimore, and Shirley Jordan.

Surviving are: a son, Timothy Douglas (Betty) of Spartanburg; 6 daughters, Brenda Green (Jackie) of Chesnee, Georgia Oglesby, Kathy Rice (Robert), Clara Marie Douglas (Jarvis), Barbara Douglas, and Traci Douglas, all of Gaffney; 2 sisters, Nancy Adams of Gaffney and Mary Jordan of Washington, D.C.; 26 grandchildren including Quintina Crosby (Billy), Sharon Crosby, and Lyvon Crosby (Zaneta), reared in the home; 30 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Opie Tate, Lucille Crosby, and Doris Roberts, all of Gaffney; a very close friend, Frances Wilson of Gaffney.

Funeral Services will be Monday, 1:00 pm, in Mt. Sinai Baptist Church with Rev. C.A. Wallace officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. He will be in state in the church Monday at 12:00 noon.

The family is at the home of Kathy Rice, 400 W. Race Street.

Michael Dean Dover

Michael-DoverMichael Dean Dover, 60, of 815 W. Buford Street, entered eternal rest Saturday, October 31st, in his home.

He was born in Gaffney, SC on August 29, 1955 to Sandy and Grace Peeler Dover.

Michael attended the public schools of Cherokee County and was a construction worker and auto mechanic.

He was preceded in death by his parents and 2 brothers, James and Ricky; a sister, Ruth Dover; and a nephew, Anthony Dover. He leaves to cherish loving memories: a son, Michael Dover, Jr.; one brother, Joe Dover; two sisters, Mary Lee Dover and Sandra Mitchem; his companion, Sherry Spencer; an aunt, Sarah Davidson; nieces; other relatives and friends.

Services to be held Thursday, November 5, 2015 at 11:00am in the Gilmore Mortuary Chapel.

Netha Bell Camp

netha-campMrs. Netha Bell Camp, 97, of 208 W. Carolina Street, Blacksburg, entered eternal rest on Wednesday, October 29th in the Peachtree Centre, Gaffney, SC.

Widow of Freddie Camp, she was born in Cherokee County and was a daughter of the late Henry and Hattie Borders Thompson.

She was a member of Youngs Grove Baptist Church where she served as a member of the Senior Missionaries, Mixed Choir, and Sunday School.

Mrs. Camp was a gentle lady who delighted in making others happy. Her bright smile and jovial disposition endeared her in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her.

In addition to her parents, husband, and siblings, she was preceded in death by a son, Benjamin Camp.

Surviving are: a son, Willie Dean Camp, Sr. (Nettie) of Gaffney; a daughter, Minnie C. Byers of Kings Mountain, NC; 11 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; 7 great-great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Services will be Monday, November 2nd at 3 p.m. in Youngs Grove Baptist Church with Dr. Larry Brooks officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery.

The family is at the home of Willie Dean and Nettie Camp, 117 New Street.
