Joe Louis Valentine, Sr.

Joe Louis ValentineJoe Louis Valentine Sr., 76, of 830 Clair St., Inster, Michigan, entered eternal rest on Saturday, June 14, 2014, at his home.

He was born in Cleveland County, N.C., and was a son of the late Jessie Ray Valentine Sr. and the late Mattie Watkins Valentine. Joe was a member of Romulus Community Baptist Church.

Surviving are his wife, Berthenia Valentine of the home; children, Joe Dean Bobo of Spartanburg, Robert Surratt of Virginia, Cynthia, Joyce, Joe Jr., Kelvin, Sharon and Carol Valentine, all of Michigan; four brothers, Rev. L.J. Valentine (Ruth) of Cowpens, J.B. Valentine (Louise), Jesse Jr., and Charles Valentine, all of Chesnee; two sisters, Kathleen Hughes (William) and Mittie Harris, all of Inster; 15 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Friday, June 20, in Inster.

Leroy Cleveland Camp, Jr.

Leroy Camp, Jr.Lester Cleveland Camp Jr., 46, of 122 2nd St., Forest City, N.C., entered enternal rest on Sunday, June 15, 2014, at his home.

Born in Gaffney, he was a son of the late Lester Camp Sr. and the late Barbara Sarratt Camp. He was a member of Buck Shoals Baptist Church and a U.S.Army veteran.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Billy Joe Sarratt and Clyde Camp.

Surviving are his wife, Linda Dunster Camp of Spartanburg; two children, Shannon Camp and Joshua Camp, both of Spartanburg, two brothers, Charles Edwin Sarratt and Thomas Cleveland Camp, both of North Carolina; four sisters, Rev. Barbara Curtis (Dan) of Chesnee, Mary Gregory (James), Mary Rivera (Pablo), all of Gaffney, and Hope Weezy of Charlotte.

Services will be held Tuesday, June 24, at 4 p.m. in The Gilmore Mortuary Chapel with the Rev. L.J. Valentine officiating.

The family is at the home of his sister, Mary Gregory, 202 Cherry St., Gaffney.

Ivory Victor Rice

27p1.previewIvory Victor “I.V.” Rice Sr., 75, of 1006 Saluda St., went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, June 12, 2014, in Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.

Widower of Bernice Miller Rice, he was born in Spartanburg County and was the son of the late Lewis and Aline Johnson Rice. He was a member of Gethsemane Baptist Church, a U.S. Army veteran and a former employee of Draper and John H. Montgomery mills.

Mr. Rice was predeceased by a sister, Dr. Betty “BJ” Staggs.

Surviving are 10 daughters, Cheryl Boyce of Spartanburg, Myrna Rice of Greer, Arita Rice of Charlotte, Nancy (Fred) Waddell of Moore, Hazel Ann Kimbel of Jacksonville, FL, Jeanette Dewberry, Annette Manning, Sandra (Ricky) Bobo, Gloria Miller and Clara Brannon, all of Chesnee; five sons, Ivory (Pastor Brenda) Rice Jr., Kevin and Kenneth Rice, Jack Manning of Spartanburg and Robert Miller of Oklahoma City, OK; three sisters, Annie Bell (Ronald) Peake of Rancho Cucamonga, CA, Ann (Maceo) Medley of Silverwood, MI, and Jenelle (Larry) Bey of Atco, NJ; a brother, James (Garle) Griffin of Spartanburg; and an uncle, Robert L. (Beverly) Rice of Orangeburg.

Funeral services will be Thursday, June 19, at 2 p.m. at Gethsemane Baptist Church with the Rev. Ronnie Miller officiating. Interment will be in Springhill Memorial Gardens. He will lie in state from 1-2 p.m.

The family will receive friends at his home and at the home of Cheryl Boycd, 150 Dover Road, Spartanburg.
