Jayla DyNce Stuard

child-angelJayla DyNce Stuard, infant daughter of Jazzmen McKissick and Jontrey Stuard, died Tuesday, June 10, 2014, in Novant Health Gaffney Medical Center.

In addition to her parents, she is survived by her maternal grandmother, Stelletta “Susis” Smith Howell (Anthony) of Gaffney; maternal grandfather, Kelvin McKissick of Cowpens; paternal grandmother, Charlotte Stuard of Gaffney; paternal grandfather, Johnny Berry of Greenville; maternal great-grandmother, Thelma Littlejohn Smith of Gaffney; and paternal greatgrandparents, John and Betty Fox of Simpsonville.

Graveside services will be held Friday, June 13, at 12 p.m. in Gaffney Memorial Park with the Rev. Robert Dover officiating, assisted by the Rev. Tina Posey.

The family is at the home of her great-grandmother, Thelma Smith, 1001 Clary St.

Vera Jefferies McCluney

24p1.preview-2Vera Jefferies McCluney, 81, of Peachtree Centre, formerly of 207 W. Claremont St., entered eternal rest on Thursday, June 12, 2014, at Novant Health Gaffney Medical Center.

Widow of Frank McCluney, she was born in Cherokee County and was a daughter of the late Deacon Benjamin Jefferies and Mattie Littlejohn Hemphill Jefferies. She was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church, where she served as Sunday School secretary, president of the Usher Board, member of the Missionary Society, and 32 years as church clerk.

She was retired from Duke Power and was last employed by Personnel Associates and Kay Hatley. Mrs. McCluney was a member of Whitaker Chapter 127 Order of the Eastern Star, A.P. and B. Mutual Benefit Society, and treasurer of Moss St. Savings Mutual Club.

She was preceded in death by six siblings, L.D. Jefferies, M.B. Jefferies, William Hemphill, Annie R. Jefferies, Ozelia Jefferies, and Bettie Word.

Surviving are a son, Ernest “Butch” McCluney of Charlotte; a grandson reared as a son, Christopher Jefferies (Ann) of Gaffney; three sisters, Odessa Jefferies of Gaffney, Lorraine Jefferies of Jamaica, N.Y., and Rosa Lee Roberts of Chicago, Ill.; uncles, J.C. Littlejohn of Gaffney and Roosevelt Littlejohn of Baltimore, MD; an aunt, Bertha Robinson of Baltimore, MD; a host of grandchildren; great-grandchildren; greatgreat grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Monday, June 16, at 2 p.m. at Mt. Zion Baptist Church with Dr. A.L. Brackett officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery. She will be in state in the church Monday from 1-2 p.m.

The family is at the home of Christopher and Ann Jefferies, 1163 W. Rutledge Ave.

Martholia Rodgers Gist

Martholia GistMartholia Rodgers Gist, 95, of Cleveland, Ohio, entered eternal rest on May 26, 2014, in Cleveland.

Widow of Harry Gist, she was born in Cherokee County and was a daughter of the late Paul and Ressie Harris Rodgers. She was a member of Second Calvary Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by four siblings, Wilbert Rodgers, Floree Smith, Plato Rodgers and Kitty Rodgers.

Surviving are a daughter, Martha Ophelia Gist; two sons, Harry Lee Gist and Bryant Ray Gist; three grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Saturday, June 7, at 11 a.m. at Second Calvary Missionary Baptist Church.
