Phyllis Evon Mack

websitethumbnailMrs. Phyllis Evon Thompson Mack was born in Gaffney, South Carolina on November 12, 1953. She was a daughter of the late Jessie Patterson Davidson and the late Roy Thompson, and widow of Ophanel Mack, Jr.

She entered eternal rest on Wednesday, August 13th, in Novant Medical Center, Gaffney, SC.

Phyllis received her formal education in the public schools of Cherokee County. She was a retired employee of the Peachtree Centre.

Phyllis was a Baptist by faith and a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She was retired from the Peachtree Centre.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Jessie Elnora Thompson. Surviving are: 3 sons, Ron Mack of Mauldin, Sheldon Mack of Blacksburg, and Justin Mack of the home; a brother, Samuel Davidson (Diane) of Gaffney; 3 sisters, Patricia Hamilton of Asheville, Wanda Hush (Odus) and Cheryl Davidson, both of Gaffney; grandson, Sheldon Mack, Jr. of Gaffney; a host of nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Aug. 19, at 2 p.m. in The Gilmore Mortuary Chapel with the Rev. Timothy L. Hunter officiating. Interment will follow in Gaffney Memorial Park.

Bennett Renaldo Smith

Bennett Smith-obitOn Sunday, July 27, 2014, our Lord and Savior took Bennett Renaldo Smith from our Christian fellowship into His loving arms.

Bennett was born in Gaffney, South Carolina on March 10, 1956 and was a son of Edith Smith Knuckles, Deacon Joe Dean Knuckles, and the late Homer Oglesby.

He received his formal education in the public schools of Cherokee County, SC. After graduating from Gaffney High School in 1974, he studied at Mars Hill College, Mars Hill, NC. Bennett received a B.S. Degree from Limestone College, Gaffney, SC and was presently studying at Converse College, Spartanburg, SC.

On November 24, 1985, he was united in Holy Matrimony with Linda Lipscomb. They were blessed with a daughter, Erika, and a grandson, Jayden.

He was a member of White Plains Baptist Church where he served as van driver and former Chairman of the Trustee Board.

Bennett was founder, owner and operator of BEL Bonding Company. He was a member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity and a former mason.

He was also preceded in death by his grandparents, Deacon and Mrs. Walker Smith, Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Knuckles, Mr. and Mrs. Talmadge Oglesby, Sr.; father and mother-in-law, Deacon and Mrs. I.M. Lipscomb.
He leaves to cherish loving memories: his loving wife of 28 years, Mrs. Linda Smith; one daughter, Ms. Erika Smith; grandson, Jayden Craig; mother, Mrs. Edith Knuckles; brothers, Derrick Knuckles (Kim) and Rev. Roderick Oglesby (Lori); a sister, Mrs. Gwendolette Dawkins (Elywin); a cousin/sister, Mrs. Shelia Murphy; sisters-in-law, Jennette Lipscomb and Joyce Whitaker; brothers in law, Homer Lipscomb (Ann) and Clyde Lipscomb (Annie); aunts, Mrs. Pernice Smith, Mrs. Bernice Dawkins (Rev. L.D.), Mrs. Sarah Redish (Elijah), Mrs. Toledo Littejohn, Mrs. Clynthree Oglesby, Mrs. Vera Williams and Mrs. Lee Webster; uncles, Dennis Oglesby (Sarah) and Charles Knuckles (Cordelia); great-uncle, William Jefferies (Lizzie); great aunts, Mrs. Eunice Foster and Mrs. Catherine Dixon; several cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

Brenda Kaye Harris Eaves

EavesBrenda Kaye Harris Eaves, 59, of 1226 Webb Drive, Shelby, N.C., entered eternal rest on Monday, July 21, 2014, in Kings Mountain Hospice.

She was born in Boiling Springs, N.C., and was a daughter of Ina Mae Rice Harris and the late Fred Harris. Mrs. Eaves attended Youngs Grove Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her father and a sister, Shelia Howell.

Surviving are: a son, Geno Eaves of Manson, N.C.; five daughters, Meriam Hull (Rev. Michael) of Gaffney, Tajsha Eaves of Boiling Springs, N.C., Beverly Eaves (Maurice) of Shelby, Dr. LaToya Eaves of Willimantic, C.T., Pamela Eaves (Timothy) of Huntersville, N.C.; her mother, Ina Mae Rice Harris of Shelby, N.C.; two brothers, Franklin Harris of Shelby and Curtis Harris (Sherese) of Charlotte, N.C.; four sisters, Mae Parks (Ronnie) of Atlanta, G.A., Joyce Harris of Hartford, C.T., Lori Hopper (Sam) and Bernita Boykins all of Norforlk, V.A.; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Funeral services will be Monday, July 28, at 3 p.m. at Youngs Grove Baptist Church with Dr. Larry Brooks officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery.

The family is at the home of the Rev. and Mrs. Michael Hull, 105 Calton Drive, Gaffney.
