Laura Mae Crosby

Laura Mae Crosby, 80, 0f 921 Hetty Hill Street, passed away Monday, September 17, 2018, in the Peachtree Centre, Gaffney, SC.

She was born in Gaffney and was a daughter of the late James and Syvelia Butler Crosby.

Laura was a graduate of Granard High School and a former member of Limestone Missionary Baptist Church.

Surviving are: four children, Steven L. Crosby of Brick, NJ, Syncere Lord (nee David Whitley) of Stamford, CT, Laurie Jenkins of Bridgeport, CT, and Amy Whitley of Janesville, WI; brothers Willie Crosby (Annie G.) of Gaffney, Gordon Crosby (Dorothy) of Wellford, SC, Vincent Crosby (Jane) of Blacksburg; sisters, Elaine White of Spartanburg, Carrie Foster, and Judy Belcher, all of Gaffney; 5 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren.

Services will be Saturday, 1:00 p.m., in The Gilmore Mortuary Chapel with Dr. Michael A. Bridges officiating and Russell Jenkins, Jr., eulogist.

The family is at the home of Judy Horton Belcher, 609 Hetty Hill Street.

Thomas Earl Crosby

Thomas Earl Crosby, 82, of 2682 Oxen Run, Temple Hills, MD, passed away Saturday, September 9, in Forestville Health and Rehabilitation Center, Forestville, Maryland. He was born in Gaffney and was a son of the late James and Syvelia Butler Crosby.

Thomas was a graduate of Granard High School, a veteran of the U.S. Army, and a member of Covenant Baptist Church in Washington, D.C.

Surviving are: his wife, Inez Boyd Crosby; brother of Willie Crosby (Annie G.) of Gaffney, Gordon Crosby (Dorothy) of Wellford, SC, Vincent Crosby (Jane) of Blacksburg, Elaine White of Spartanburg, Laura Crosby, Carrie Foster, and Judy Belcher, all of Gaffney; godchildren, Da Lacy, Derrick Anderson, Jr., Cydney Anderson, Latisha Bentley (Wikie); a host of nieces and nephews.

Services will be Saturday, 1:00 p.m., in The Gilmore Mortuary Chapel with Dr. Michael A. Bridges officiating and Barry F. Crosby, eulogist.

The family is at the home of Judy Horton Belcher, 609 Hetty Hill Street.

Melvin Eric Collier

Melvin Eric Collier, 58, of 112 Brugg St., Blacksburg, passed away Monday, September 10, 2018, in Carolinas Medical Center, Charlotte.

He was born in Port Chester, NY and was a son of Elijah Collier and the late Betty Hames Collier.

Melvin was a graduate of Gaffney High School, a veteran of the U.S. Army, and a member of Trinity A.M.E. Zion Church in Blacksburg.

Surviving are: his father, Elijah Collier (Yvette) of Kannapolis, NC; two brothers, Kenneth Hames of Gaffney and Darryl Collier of Greer, SC; a sister, Heather Collier of Concord, NC; aunts, Ruby Hames of Blacksburg, “Mom” Sue Collier, Katherine Eller, and Shirley Whitaker, all of North Carolina

Funeral Services will be Wednesday, 2:00 p.m., in Trinity A.M.E. Zion Church with Rev. Wanalyn Barnett, officiating. He will be in state in the church Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. The family will receive friends in the church from 1:30 to 2:00 p.m. Interment will be Thursday, in the Veterans National Cemetery, Salisbury, NC.
