William Alexander Smith

William Alexander Smith, “Alex”, age 83, formerly of Gaffney, passed away Monday, August 30th, in High Point Regional Hospital, High Point, NC.

He was born in Cherokee County and was a son of the late Wilma Smith and J.B. Mitchell.

He was a graduate of Granard High School and Davidson County Technical College.

Alexander was an adventurous man who enjoyed traveling, fishing, cooking, and gardening. In his spare time, he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, telling jokes, sharing stories about his travels, spreading wisdom and knowledge that impacted the lives of many. When you think of William Alexander Smith, remember to Live, Love, and Laugh as often as you can!

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two children, Levon Jefferies and Cheryl Clark; siblings, James Arthur Smith, Edward Lee Smith, Baron Smith, Jimmy Smith, Calvin Smith, Sammy Mitchell, Calvin Mitchell, June Mitchell, Francis Smith, Lessie Mae Davis, Garnell Oglesby, and Nellie Jenkins.

He leaves to cherish loving memories: his life-time partner, Gloria Strickland, of NC; his children, Evon Leland (Melvin) and Chandra L. Smith, of South Carolina, Carolyn Hunter, Eric Morrison (Donna), Debra L. Thomas, and Alexander H. Smith, all of North Carolina; a brother, Matthew Gregory, of Charlotte, NC; four sisters, Johnese White and Brenda Stroud, both of Shelby, NC, Linda Sexton and Hazel Johnson, both of Spartanburg; thirteen grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, September 4, 2021, at 11:00 a.m., in The Gilmore Mortuary Chapel with the Rev. Ellis McLendon, Pastor of Brookhaven Baptist Church, High Point, NC, officiating.

Kendrick LeWarren Lipscomb

Kendrick LeWarren Lipscomb “Ghostface”, age 39, of 106 King St., passed away Sunday, August 29th, in Cherokee Medical Center.

He was born in Cherokee County and was the son of Jimmy and Lori Camp Lipscomb.

Kendrick was a graduate of Gaffney High School, Class of 2000, and a former employee of The Timken Company.

In addition to his parents, he leaves to cherish loving memories: two sons, Kendrick Lipscomb, Jr. and Nathan Fernanders, of Spartanburg; two brothers, Billy Lipscomb, of Boiling Springs, SC and Marcus Lipscomb, of Spartanburg, SC; his grandfather, William Johnson, of Gaffney, SC; aunts, Vivian Buckson Savage, Denise Dalton, Clarissa Buckson, Phophates Karen Tate, Kim Richardson Sanchez, and Linda Dawkins; uncles, Joe, Carlos, Michael, Timothy, and Victor Buckson; other relatives and friends.

A Funeral Service will be held Saturday, September 4, 2021, 2:00 p.m., in Mt Sinai Missionary Baptist Church with The Rev. C A Wallace officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. He will be in state in the church Saturday at 1:30 p.m.

Bobby Gene Smith

Bobby Gene Smith, age 86, of 334 Prosperity Ave., Greenville, SC, was called from labor to reward on Thursday, August 26, 2021, in Greenville Memorial Hospital.

He was a native of Cherokee County and was a son of the late Kenon and Geneva Rice Smith.

Bobby was a graduate of Granard High School, a Baptist, and a former Appliance Serviceman at Duke Energy Company.

Some of the loves of his life were: spending time with his family, fishing, singing, restoring appliances, and watching his Dallas Cowboys Football Team.

He leaves to cherish loving memories: sons, Christopher ad Ricky Widman of Dorchester, MA, Darrell Bailey of Middletown , CT, Bobby Dickens of New London, CT, Bobby Smith, Jr., Johnny Smith and Douglas Morgan, all of Charlotte, NC, and Tylon Turner of Warner Robins, GA; daughters, Loretta King of the home, Mildred Jeffries of Charlotte, MC, Tiffany Turner of Warner Robins, GA and Ann Singletary of Torrinton, CT; 39 grandchildren; 96 great grandchildren; 34 great-great grandchildren; a host of nieces , nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, September 5, 2021, in The Gilmore Mortuary Chapel, Gaffney, with the Rev. Courtney Mills officiating.
