Lucille McCluney Smith

Lucille McCluney Smith, 89, of 123 Little Drive, Gaffney, entered eternal rest on Tuesday, November 9th, in her home.

Widow of Frank Smith, Jr., she was born in Cherokee County and was a daughter of the late Curtis and Minnie Anderson Smith.

She was a member of Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses and a retired employee of Spring
City Knitting.

She was predeceased by 5 children, John Frank Smith, Dorothy McDowell, Cephus Thompson, Diana Smith, and Denise Clark; sisters, Josephine James and Betty Jo Sims.

She leaves to cherish loving memories: 3 sons, Michael M. Smith, of Charlotte, NC, Joseph B. Smith and Calvin Davidson, of the home; 3 daughters, Lorraine Hoey, of Gaffney, Nicole S. Johnson (Leroy), of Blacksburg, Tracy S. Reid (Timothy), of Norfork, VA; a brother, Curtis McCluney, Jr., sisters-in-law, Olivia Smith and Geraldine Buchanan; nieces, Leevon Littlejohn and Anita Smith; of Gaffney; a host of grandchildren as well as Olivia Smith and Geraldine Buchanan; great-grandchildren; and great-great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.

Public Viewing will be Saturday, November 13, 2021 from 1:00 – 6:00 p.m.

A Funeral Service will be Sunday, 2:00 p.m., in The Gilmore Mortuary Chapel with Brother Brian Phifer officiating.

Nora Watkins Fernanders

Nora Watkins Fernanders, 69, of Chesnee, SC, passed away Monday, November 8th, in her home.

Wife of James Fernanders, she was born in Cherokee County and was a daughter of the late Arthur and Jessie Camp Watkins.

Nora was a graduate of Limestone College, a member of Foster Grove Baptist Church in Chesnee, and a retired clerk with AT&T Telecommunications.

She leaves to cherish loving memories: her husband, James, of the home; children, James Frenanders, Jr. of Charleston, SC, Arthur Lamar Fernanders, of Marietta, GA, and Rory Fernanders, of Chesnee; siblings, Ozee Woods, of Everette, WA, Ezee Watkins, of Hollis, NY, and Luella Quincy, of Covington WA; 5 grandchildren; other relatives and friends.

Public Viewing will be held Thursday, November 11, 2021 from 1:00 – 6:00 p.m.


A Funeral Service will be held Friday, 2:00 p.m., in Foster Grove Baptist Church with The Reverend Horace Wilson officiating. Interment will be in Buck Shoals Baptist Church Cemetery. She will be in state in the church Friday at 1:00 p.m.

Johnny Lee Smith

Johnny Lee Smith, 71, of 107 Camelot Drive, Gaffney, SC, entered eternal rest Sunday, November 7th, in Cherokee Medical Center.

He was a son of the late Johnnie and Thelma Dawkins Smith; husband of Olivia Moye Smith, and father of Latee Smith.

A Memorial Service will be held Thursday, 3:00 p.m., in The Gilmore Mortuary Chapel with The Reverend Milton Edwards officiating.
