Mrs. Ruby Mae Sizemore Brown


Mrs. Ruby Mae Sizemore Brown, 67, of 230 Camellia Circle, passed away Thursday, July 8th, in her residence.

Widow of Elbert “Sarge” Brown, she was born in Cherokee County to Dorothy Knuckles Sizemore and the late Grady Sizemore, Sr.

Ruby was a member of Philadephia Missionary Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, David Sizemore and Matthew Sizemore.

She leaves to cherish loving memories: three sisters, Luvenia Sizemore, of Gaffney, Angela Sizemore Dawkins, of Gaffney, and Denise Otey, of Atlanta, GA; two brothers, Deacon John Knuckles, of Spartanburg, and Grady Sizemore, Jr. (Donna), of Scottsdale, AZ; two aunts, Bernice K. Fowler of Gaffney, and Staucey Scippio, (Bill), of Bridgeton, NJ; 10 nieces and nephews; 14 great-nieces and nephews; 1 great niece; nieces and nephews raised in the home, Stacey Sizemore and Syndey Baker, both of Charlotte, NC, Billy Smith, Douglas Dawkins, Jr, Joya Dawkins, Charlei, and Carlei Dawkins, Paisley Young, all of Gaffney.

The Funeral Service will be Tuesday, 1:00 p.m. in Philadelphia Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. Danny Burnside, eulogist, and Rev. Stanley Watson, officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery. She will be in state in the church Tuesday at 12:00 noon.

James William Dawkins

James William Dawkins 76, of Illinois Circle, Gaffney, SC, entered into eternal rest on Monday, July 5, 2021, in Peachtree Rehabilitation Centre, Gaffney, SC.

He was born on March 4, 1945 to Willie L. Dawkins and the late R.B. Dawkins. He was a graduate of Granard High School, Class of 1965, a retired employee of Cherokee County Schools, and an entrepreneur who enjoyed painting and other outdoor work. He attended Concord Baptist Church.

James loved his family and leaves them with love and stories that will continue to be told.

Proceeding him in death are, his father, R. B. Dawkins and his brother, S.W. Dawkins.

Left to cherish fond memories are: his mother, Ms. Willie L. Dawkins of the home; two sisters, Ms. Margaret Dawkins of the home, and Ms. Celia D. Weeks, of Gaffney; two brothers, Charles Dawkins (Flora) and Broadus Dawkins, both of Gaffney; a host of nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral Service will be held Saturday, July 10, 2021, at 12:00 noon, in New Mount Zion Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. Michael A. Bridges officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. He will be in state in the church Saturday at 11:00 a.m. The family visitation hours in the home will be from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. daily.

Wandra Jean McCluney

Wandra J. McCluney, 63, of 125 Creekview Lane, Gaffney, passed away Friday, July 3rd, in Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.

She was born in Cherokee County on Feburary 17, 1958 to Claude McCluney, Sr. and Myrtle Phillips McCluney.

Wandra was a retired custodian for Cherokee Medical Center. She was a member of Mt. Sinai Missionary Baptist Church.

She leaves to cherish loving memories: a son, Kendrick Lashun McCluney, of Spartanburg; a daughter, Charity McCluney, of Gaffney; two sisters, Kathy Camp and Janet McCluney, both of Gaffney, SC.; three nieces raised in the home, Thaylia “Niecy” Phillips, and Bunny Phillips, both of Gaffney, SC, and Angela Miller (Walter), of Chesnee, SC.; 4 grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Public Viewing will be held Thursday from 12:00 to 6:00 p.m.

Funeral Services will be held Friday, July 9, 2021, at 3:00 p.m., in Mt. Sinai Missionary Baptist Church with Overseer Kenneth Dawkins, Jr. officiating and Rev. C. A. Wallace, eulogist. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. She will be in state in the church Friday at 2:00 p.m.
