Layman Lamont Ellis

Layman Lamont Ellis, 76, of 6009 Mahogany Lan, Kings Mountain, NC, passed away Thursday, July 8, 2021, in CaroMont Healthcare, Gastonia, NC.

He was born in Cherokee County, SC and was a son of the late Sam Washington Ellis, Sr. and the late Elnita Oglesby Ellis.

He was a Baptist and a retired truck driver for Kerns Trucking Company.

Layman was predeceased by: his parents; four siblings, Sam Ellis, Jr., Robert Lee Ellis, Helen Bailey, and Tina Wilson Smith; and his significant other of 28 years, Annie Artis.

He leaves to cherish loving memories: a daughter, Lisa Smith, of New York; brothers, James Ellis (Jeneva), of Kings Mountain; Stanley Ellis, Sr., of Gastonia; Carl Bailey (Tina), of Glen Burnie, MD, Maurice Ellis (JoAnne), Willie Lee Ellis, Sr., Kivin Wilson, Randy Wilson, and Billy Tate, all of Gaffney; sisters, Evelyn Smith and Elizabeth Gaffney (Dean), Amelia Marie Evans, Angel Davis (Tim), all of Gaffney, Audrey Smith, of Spartanburg; a special niece, Vickie Brown (Therndon), of Kings Mountain; other relatives and friends.

The Funeral Service will be 12:00 noon on Saturday, July 17th, in The Gilmore Mortuary Chapel with The Reverend Dr. Michael A. Bridges officiating. Interment will follow in Gaffney Memorial Park. The family is at the home of Amelia Marie Bailey, 319 Sycamore Street in Gaffney.

Vickie Lynn Williams Stewart

Vickie Lynn Williams Stewart 65 of Jacksonville FL made her transition on July 3, 2021 in Jacksonville, Florida.

Vickie was born August 14, 1956 in Cherokee County in Gaffney SC and was the third daughter of J.W. and Mary Jeter Williams. Her parents and a sister, Emily W. Edrington, predeceased her.

Vickie was a former member of Bethel Baptist Church and a graduate of Gaffney High School Class of 1974.

She leaves cherish loving memories: her husband, Norman Stewart; two sons, Marshall Williams (Satin) and Isaiah Williams, of Florida; 2 sisters, Terril C. Williams of Gaffney, SC and Reba W. Walker (Reggie) of Johnston, SC; 8 grandchildren, Marshell, J’Kai, Jada, Jaleah, Ian, Nia, Kamiyah and Jaylen. A host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, great-great nieces and nephews, classmates, and friends.

She may be viewed Friday, July 16, 2021, at Carthage Chapel from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00p.m. Funeral Service will be held 11:00 a.m., Saturday, July 17, 2021, at Paxon Revival Center, 5461 Commonwealth Avenue, Jacksonville, Florida 32254.

Mrs. Ruby Mae Sizemore Brown


Mrs. Ruby Mae Sizemore Brown, 67, of 230 Camellia Circle, passed away Thursday, July 8th, in her residence.

Widow of Elbert “Sarge” Brown, she was born in Cherokee County to Dorothy Knuckles Sizemore and the late Grady Sizemore, Sr.

Ruby was a member of Philadephia Missionary Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, David Sizemore and Matthew Sizemore.

She leaves to cherish loving memories: three sisters, Luvenia Sizemore, of Gaffney, Angela Sizemore Dawkins, of Gaffney, and Denise Otey, of Atlanta, GA; two brothers, Deacon John Knuckles, of Spartanburg, and Grady Sizemore, Jr. (Donna), of Scottsdale, AZ; two aunts, Bernice K. Fowler of Gaffney, and Staucey Scippio, (Bill), of Bridgeton, NJ; 10 nieces and nephews; 14 great-nieces and nephews; 1 great niece; nieces and nephews raised in the home, Stacey Sizemore and Syndey Baker, both of Charlotte, NC, Billy Smith, Douglas Dawkins, Jr, Joya Dawkins, Charlei, and Carlei Dawkins, Paisley Young, all of Gaffney.

The Funeral Service will be Tuesday, 1:00 p.m. in Philadelphia Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. Danny Burnside, eulogist, and Rev. Stanley Watson, officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery. She will be in state in the church Tuesday at 12:00 noon.
