Lester L. Petty Sr.

Lester L. Petty Sr. was called to his Heavenly home on Sunday, May 10th, 2020 in his home in Gaffney, S.C.

Lester, born April 2nd 1932, was the beloved son of the late Herbert Petty Sr. and the late Permelia McGill Petty. He was a native of Cleveland County, NC, where he attended public schools, graduating from Washington School. At an early age, Lester accepted Christ into his life. Lester was also a veteran of the United States Army, where he served and fought in the Korean War.

After completing his time in the army, Lester, a traveling man, moved to New Jersey where he worked for New Jersey Office Supply. He was a member of Wisdom Lodge No.5 where he served as secretary for many years.  Upon retiring, he relocated to Gaffney, South Carolina. Lester had many passions which included golf, hunting, fishing, and bus rides.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his spouse Troy Littlejohn Petty; three sons Lester Petty Jr., Alfred Petty, and Charles Petty; four brothers Herbert, Claude, Jimmy, and Eugene; and two sisters, Flossie Wilson and Sarah Koontz.

Left to cherish loving memories: a special aunt, Azelee McGill, his two sisters Wanda Guest of Shelby, North Carolina and Janet Dawkins of Gastonia, North Carolina ; sons Larry Littlejohn (Chloette) of Gaffney, South Carolina, Roy Petty (Joyce) of Simpsonville, South Carolina, Elliott Petty of Wellford, South Carolina, Tony Childs of Alexandria, Virginia, Charlie Goldsberry of Orange New Jersey ; daughters,  Pat Medley (Bill) of Plainfield, New Jersey, Patricia Smith (James) of Shelby, North Carolina, Shirley Petty of Gaffney, South Carolina, Beverly Washington (Wallace) of Goldsboro North Carolina ; and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends.

He was a loving father, brother, grandfather, uncle and friend and a joy to all whom he came in contact with. We love him and he will be greatly missed.

Brenda Camp Brown

Brenda Camp Brown, 67, of 2221 Brugg St. Blacksburg, passed away Saturday, May 9, 2020, in Spartanburg Medical Center.

She was born in Cherokee County to Roland Camp, Sr. and Clarissa Conner Camp. Betty was preceded in death by: her parents; husband, Samuel Brown; and brothers, John, Charles, and Roland Camp, Sr.

She was a member of Galilee Baptist Church and a bus driver for 23 years for Cherokee County School District.

Surviving are: sons, Terrence, Timothy, and Marcus Camp, all of Blacksburg; a sister, Patricia Hull, of Blacksburg; grandchildren, Risha Douglas, Tyler, Kayla, Bryson, and Immanuel Camp; great-grandchild, Tyllen Camp; Charles Quinton Littlejohn, reared in the home as her son; a host of nieces and nephews.

The Funeral Service will be Saturday, 2 p.m. in The Gilmore Mortuary Chapel with Rev. Michael Hull officiating. Interment will be in Concord Baptist Church Cemetery.

Ella Louise McClain (Iggy)

Ella Louise McClain (Iggy), age 81, of Florida, departed this life April 11, 2020 at the Kindred Hospital, Green Cove Springs, FL.

She was born in Hendersonville, NC and was a daughter of the late Alonzo & Evelyn McClain. “Iggy” graduated from Granard High School in 1955 and furthered her education in Friendship Jr. College, Rock Hill, SC.

She moved to New Haven, CT and became well known for her gift of singing. She performed regularly in the 60’s at the Apollo Theater in New York City.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her siblings, Elizabeth, William, and Robert (Robby).

Left to cherish loving memories are her siblings: Gladys Brown of Jacksonville, FL, Alonzo McClain Jr. (Evelyn) of Goldsboro, NC, Calle Atkins (William) of Fleming Island, FL and James E. McClain of Jacksonville, FL.

A Memorial Service will be announced at a later date.
