Helen Hemphill Jefferies

Mrs. Helen Hemphill Jefferies, 89, of 523 W. Montgomery St., Apt. 25, passed away Thursday, Feb. 14, 2019, in her home. Widow of Mr. Fleet Jefferies, she was born in Cherokee County, a daughter of the late Dock and Lue Bertha Glover Hemphill.

She was a member of Bethel Baptist Church, where she served as a member of the Bethel Baptist Church Choir, Jubilee Choir, and Church School Class #11.

She is survived by a nephew raised in the home, Mr. Karnavis Roberts of Gaffney; six sisters, Mrs. Effie Moody of Columbus, Ohio, Mrs. Thelma Harden of Philadelphia, Pa., Mrs. Catherine Roberts, Mrs. Addie Fay Dawkins, Mrs. Betty R. Harris and Mrs. Mary Ann Jolly, all of Gaffney; a niece that took care of her, Mrs. Alice Smith; several other nieces and nephews; a goddaughter, Mrs. Sybil Bridges of Gaffney; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Memorial services will be held Tuesday, Feb. 19., at 4 p.m., in Bethel Baptist Church with The Reverend Dr. James W. Sanders, Jr. officiating.

Roxanne Edrington

Roxanne Ferellis Houey Edrington, 45, of 537 Estelle Road, passed away Sunday, February 3, 2019, in Spartanburg Regional Medical Center, Gaffney.

She was born in Gaffney, SC on June 4, 1973 to Shelia Houey Byers and the late James Littlejohn.

Roxanne was a member of Concord Baptist Church.  She was a 1992 graduate of Gaffney High School and a former employee of TNS Mills.

She was also preceded in death by her step-father, Edward Byers. Surviving are: her mother, Shelia Byers; a son, Kelsey Edrington; a daughter, Keyonia Edrington; three brothers, Stan Mickles, Rodrick Byers, and James Littlejohn; grandson, Kyrie Edrington; aunts, Patricia Manning (J.P.), Annie Houey, Sandra Houey, Brenda McLaughlin (Al), Carrie Littlejohn, Alice Smith, Teresa Haney, Doris Logan, and Bernice Dowdle; uncles, Emanuel Houey and Leonard Houey;  other relatives and many friends.

The Funeral Service will be Friday, 3:00 p.m., in Concord Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. Michael Bridges officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. She will be in state in the church Friday at 2:00 p.m.

Jimmy Carr, Jr.

Jimmy Carr, Jr., 80, of 203 Pine Street, passed away Monday, January 28, 2018, in Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.

Widower of Mary Helen Simmons Carr, he was born in Harrels, N.C., and was a son of the late Jimmy Carr, Sr., and the late Emma Lewis Carr.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Marines, a member and deacon of Bethel Baptist Church, former member and deacon of Holy Cross Baptist Church in Philadelphia, PA., and a retired truck driver.

Surviving are: 3 sons, Jimmy Carr, III, (Angel), Jeffrey Carr, and Jerry Carr, all of Philadelphia, PA; 3 daughters, Debra Grandy (Robert), of Philadelphia, Deyvonne Carr of Gaffney, and Sheena Driscall (Gary), of Philadelphia; brother, Charles Carr, of Maryland; 2 sisters, Alberta Johnson of Raleigh, NC, and Margaret Carr of Williamsport, PA; 14 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren.

The Funeral Service will be Tuesday, Feb 5th, 1:00 p.m., in Limestone Missionary Baptist Church with Dr. J.W. Sanders, Jr., officiating.  Interment will be in Robinson Chapel Cemetery, Blacksburg.

He will be in state in the church Tuesday at noon.
