Eldred Robinson, Sr.

Eldred Robinson, Sr., 78, of 114 Riverbrook Dr., passed away Saturday, December 1, 2018, in Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.

Husband of Vernell Palmer Robinson, he was born in Cherokee County on December 18, 1939 to Clarence and Anna Ray Robinson.

He was a member of Mark Hill Baptist Church and a retiree of the Draper Corporation.

He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, Harold, Michael, Randy, Clarence, and Heanon Robinson; one sister, Diane Smith; eight brothers-in-law, Billie Dean, Johnny, Jimmy, Tom, Dennis, Jessie, Clarence, and June Palmer; and one sister-in-law, Elmer Cumberlander.

Surviving are: wife, Vernell, of Gaffney; two sons, Eldred Robinson, Jr. and Clarence Lee Robinson of Charlotte; two daughters, Jennifer Copeland (Leon) of the home and Nellie Robinson of Gaffney; three sisters, Sarah Tate of Gaffney, Shirley Jean Jefferies of Baltimore, and Harriet Adams (Frank) of Union; seven grandchildren, Teronn Littlejohn, Paulette Miller, Kelvin Robinson, Jontae Thompson (Latasha), A.J. Littlejohn, T.J. Thompson, Ebony Robinson; eighteen great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.

Due to inclement weather on Sunday, December 8th, the Funeral Service will be Saturday, December 15, at 2:00 p.m., in Mark Hill Baptist Church with Rev. Sterling Farr officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. He will be in state in the church Sunday at 2:00 p.m.

The family is at the home of his daughter, Jennifer Copeland of 114 Riverbrook Drive.

Janet Jean Smith

Janet Jean Smith, 61, of 121 Concord Acres Drive, passed away on Saturday, December 1, 2018, in her home.

She was born in Cherokee County and was a daughter of Shirley Smith Tate and the late Jimmie Tate.

In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by a sister, Yvonnie Smith. Surviving are: her mother, Shirley Tate of Gaffney; a sister, Sherry Lou Smith, of Shelby, NC; and two brothers, Kenneth Lee Tate and Jimmie Lee Tate, Jr., both of New Canaan, CT.

Funeral Services will be Friday, 2:00 p.m., in The Gilmore Mortuary Chapel with Rev. Darrell Smith officiating. Interment will be in Oakland Cemetery.

The family is at the home of Nicky Smith, 115 Crosby Street.

Kansie Littlejohn Ratchford

Kansie Littlejohn Ratchford, 90, of 211 Michigan Ave, passed away Thursday, November 29, 2018, in her home.

Widow of Roy P. Ratchford, she was born in Cherokee County on May 5, 1928 to Lucious Littlejohn, Sr. and Ella Mae Jones Littlejohn.

Kansie was a faithful member of Limestone Missionary Baptist Church. She served as a Deaconess, member of the Senior Choir, the Sunday School, the Usher Ministry, directress of the Celestial Choir, and The Missionary Ministry.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Sevoir Ratchford; three grandchildren, Michelle Ratchford, Savitra Ratchford, and Latasha Wray; three great-grandchildren, Cardaja Ratchford, Beyonce Mcneil, and Zywuan Ratchford; five sisters, Allie King, Jemima Jones, Murlene Cottrell, Mattie Lene Wood, and Dorothy Rue; and three brothers, Dr. Clarence Littlejohn, Dr. Lucious Littlejohn, Jr. and Rev. Myles Littlejohn.

Surviving are: five sons, Roy M. Ratchford of the home, Leonard Ratchford (Letite), Warren Ratchford (Sheila), Andrew Ratchford (Lynn), and James Ratchford all of Gaffney; one daughter, Lorraine Wray (Rev. Dr. Kerwin) of Gaffney; one sister, Helen Stringer of Los Angeles, California; twenty grandchildren which Terrance Ratchford was reared in the home as a son; thirty-four great-grandchildren which Troy Wilkins, Jr. was reared in the home as a son; and seven great-great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

The Funeral Service will be Thursday, 1 p.m., in Limestone Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Arthur J. Smith officiating and Rev. Michael L. Golden presiding. Interment will be in Frederick Memorial Gardens. She will be in state at the church Thursday at 12:00 noon.

The family is at the home, 211 Michigan Avenue.
