Paul Christopher Burris

Paul Christopher Burris, age 57, of Blacksburg, passed away Monday, January 15th, in Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.

He was born in Cherokee County and was a son of the late Ralph, Sr. and Annie Sutson Burris.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, Ralph Burris, Jr.

He leaves to cherish loving memories: three brothers, Daryl Burris, Scott Burris, both of Gaffney, SC and Travis Burris, of Boiling Springs, SC; two sisters, Lynette Parker, of Blacksburg, SC and Angela Allen, of Gaffney, SC; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral Service will be held Saturday, January 20, 2024, at 11:00 a.m., in The Gilmore Mortuary Chapel. Interment will follow on Monday, January 22, 2024 in Youngs Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family is receiving friends at the home from 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Howard Camp

Howard Lee Camp, age 64, of 63 Blackstock Road, Inman, SC, passed away Monday, January 15, 2024, in Spartanburg Hospice Home. 

He was born in Cherokee County and was a son of the late Deacon J.B. Camp and the late Helen Morris Camp.

Howard, affectionately known as “Cosell,” was a graduate of Gaffney High School, a veteran of the U.S. Army, and a member of Mikes Creek Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by siblings, John Lank Camp, Joe Dean Camp, Jay Bernard Camp, Dennis W. Camp, and Brenda Camp Foster; a nephew, Shondra Camp; a niece, Jonica Camp; brother in-law, Gary Armstrong, Sr.

He leaves to cherish loving memories: brothers, Roger Gene Camp and Avery Camp (Rosalyn), both of Gaffney; three sisters, Lois Camp Oglesby, of Charlotte, NC, Deborah Louise Blanton and Rebecca C. Armstrong, both of Gaffney; an aunt, Geraldine Morris, of Gaffney.

A Funeral Service with Military Rites will be held Saturday, 2:00 p.m., in The Gilmore Mortuary Chapel with The Reverend Courtney Mills and The Reverend Kerwin Wray. Interment will follow in the family Cemetery.

The family is receiving friends at the home of his sister, Deborah, at 566 Boiling Springs Hwy, Gaffney From the hours of 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Mary Louise Studyvance

Mary Louise Studyvance was born in Cherokee County and was the daughter of Mary Studyvance Byers and Johnny Frank Byers.

She was last employed with The Vocational Rehab.

On Tuesday January 2, 2024, she went to sleep in death in her home.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Willie Mae Goode.

In addition to her parents she leaves to cherish loving memories: her daughter, Dyesha Studyvance; her son, Corey Studyvance; a grandson, Bra’Derious Tate; sisters, Johnnie Woodson, Frances A. Byers, Lillie Hughes (Russell),  Rakel Dawkins, Alexis Dawkins, Franchsia Dawkins, Cassie Dawkins, all of Gaffney; four brothers, James Byers (Ruby),  Kenny Sarratt, Willie Sarratt, Jr., Joseph Dawkins, all of Gaffney, Warren Byers, of Spartanburg, Melvin Harrison and Alvin Harrison (Rachel), of Boston, MA; aunts,  Patricia Sarratt, Rosa Studyvance, Shirely Dover, Annie Tate, Carrie Valentine, Barbara Littlejohn, Rosa Byers (James); uncles, Dean, Roosavelt, Billy, Larry, Paul, Ronnie, Donnie (Debra), all of Gaffney, Francis, of Clarksville, TN, Joseph (Brandie), of Brooklyn, NY, and Paul of High Point, NC; great aunts, Helen Butler, Helen Camp, Hazel Allen; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.


A Memorial Service will be held Sunday, January 7, 2024, at 2:00 p.m., in The Gilmore Mortuary Chapel with the Rev. Dr. Timothy L. Hunter officiating.

The family is at the home of her mother, Mary Studyvance Byers, 201 1st Avenue, Gaffney, SC
