Gladys Hunter Johnson

Gladys Ruth Johnson, 86, of 343 McGinnis Road, Cowpens, SC, passed away Wednesday, June 14, 2023 in Lake Emory Nursing Home, Inman, SC.

Widow of Melia Roger Johnson, Sr., she was born in Iva, SC and was a daughter of the late Trossie and Addie Tucker Hunter.

She was a member of Island Creek Baptist Church.

Gladys was predeceased by siblings, T.C., II, Jacob, Bennie, and Lincoln Hunter and Tecora Oliver.

Surviving are: a son, Melia Roger Johnson, Jr., of Spartanburg, SC; a daughter, Eureka Johnson, of Cowpens; a brother, Columbus Hunter, of Cowpens; sisters, Ceola Posey, of Spartanburg, Ruby Mae Brackett, of Cowpens, and Judy Foster, of Sicklerville, NJ; granddaughter, Chisa J. Putman; great-grandchildren, B. Dmitri Putman, II, Addilyn, and Hunter Grace Putman, all of Rock Hill, SC; brother-in-law, James O. Johnson (Venita), of Upper Marlboro, MD; sisters-in-law, Elaine Hunter, of Gaffney and Barbara McNair, of Pleasantville, MD.

A Funeral Service will be held Thursday, June 22nd, 1:00 p.m. in Island Creek Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. Timothy L. Hunter officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m., in The Gilmore Mortuary.

Robert William Rogers

Robert William Rogers, of 103 Carver Street, Gaffney, SC, passed away Tuesday morning in Cherokee Medical Center.

A Funeral Service will be held Tuesday, June 20th, 2:00 p.m., in Bethesda Presbyterian Church with The Rev. Rafus Camp, Rev. Tony Makupson, Rev. Xavier Haney, and Rev. Dr. Timothy Hunter. Interment will follow in Oakland Cemetery.

Douglas Antonio Dawkins, Sr.

Douglas Antonio Dawkins, Sr, 60, of 473 Lockhart Lane, Gaffney, passed away Friday, June 9, 2023, in Veterans Hospital, Richmond, VA.


He was born in Gaffney and was a son of the late Jimmy Phillips and the late Verdell Dawkins Phillips.
He was a 1981 graduate of Gaffney High School and a veteran of the United States Army. He was a member of Greater New Faith Baptist Church.


Douglas was preceded in death by a sister, Carla Phillips. He leaves to cherish loving memories: his former wife (31 years), Angelia Sizemore-Dawkins, of Gaffney; three sons, Douglas Dawkins, Jr., Dareon Bridges, Jervis Shippy (Shandreka), all of Gaffney; four daughters, Joya Dawkins, Jocelyn Bonner, Dakeia Bridges Rodgers (Richard), and Dakara Bridges, all of Gaffney; brothers, Mickel Dawkins (Robin), of Boiling Springs, SC, Clinton Phillips, of Charlotte, NC; three sisters, Charlene Brown (Doug), Charlotte Wade (Andre), Vicki Yarborough (Fredrick), all of Gaffney; 17 grandchildren; other relatives and friends.


The Funeral Service and Military Rites will be held Monday, 1:00 p.m., in The Gilmore Mortuary Chapel with The Rev. Tony Makupson officiating.
