Jake L. Jefferies

J. L. “Jake” Jefferies, 84, of 406 Hetty Hill Street, Gaffney, passed away Thursday, March 23, 2023, in Palmetto Patriots Home, Gaffney, SC.

Widower of Velma Tyler Jefferies, he was born in Cherokee County and was a son of Johnny Sr. and Mary I.V. Jefferies.

Jake was a graduate of Granard High School, a veteran of the United States Air Force, and a Baptist. He was a retired delivery truck driver of Byars Medical Delivery Service.

In addition to his parents and wife he was preceded in death by a son, Frankie Jefferies; siblings, Virginia Jefferies, Daisy Wallace, Margaret Davis, Sylvia Parker, Johnny, Claude, Albert and Lewis Jefferies.

He leaves to cherish loving memories: three son, Lang Crosby and Eric Coleman, both of Gaffney, SC, Jeff Coleman (Andrea), of Charlotte, NC; five daughters, Claudia Johnson and Sybil Bridges, both of Gaffney, Roxanne Jefferies, of Opelousas, LA, Patrice Smith (Patrick), of Boiling Springs, SC, and Faye Crosby, of Boiling Springs, SC; two brothers, Joaquion Jefferies, of Gaffney, SC, and Robert Neal (Leecie), of Charleston, SC; four sisters, Thelma Davidson, of Gaffney, SC, Doris Watson, of Spartanburg, SC, Ramos Gordon and Belvar Studyvance (Edmond), both of Gaffney, SC; raised as a daughter, Jonetta Jefferies, of Layfayetta, LA; an aunt, Carolean Adams, of Charlotte, NC; a host of grands, great grands, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, March 30th, at 12:00 noon, in The Gilmore Mortuary Chapel with Minister John Jamison officiating.  Interment will follow in Oakland Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the home of his daughter, Sybil Bridges, 406 Hetty Hill Street, from 2:00 to 6:00 p.m. daily.


Gladys Jean McClain Brown

Gladys Jean McClain Brown was born April 5, 1937. in Hendersonville, North Carolina to the late Alonzo Sloan McClain, Sr. & Evelyn Wood Hill McClain. Gladys was the first of eight children. On Friday, March 3, 2023, Gladys passed away in Jacksonville, Florida.

Her education began in Asheville, NC. The family moved to Gaffney, SC where she graduated from Granard High School in 1955. There. she met and married her high school sweetheart, Roy Osborne Brown. They had 7 children and moved to Stamford, Connecticut in 1960. Gladys attended J.W. Vocational school, became a Licensed Practical Nurse and worked for St. Joseph Hospital in Stamford, Ct.

In 1981 Gladys moved to Jacksonville, FL. Her love of travel took her to cities throughout the United States as well as foreign travels to Switzerland, Haiti and Jamaica. Gladys became a member of Central Metropolitan CME Church where she was a dedicated and faithful member.

She was preceded in death by her siblings. sisters: Ella “Iggy” McClain, Callie McClain Atkins, and Elizabeth “Lib” McClain; brothers Alonzo “Bro)” McClain, Jr., William “Bill”
McClain, Robert (Bobbie) McClain and James (TI) McClain; son-in-law, John Rhines. Gladys leaves to mourn her daughters, Royreal Rhines (John), Evelyn and Denise; four
sons William, Keith, Thellus, and Douglas (Romona); 23 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; sister-in-law Evelyn McClain (Alonzo); brothers-in-law, William Atkins (Callie), and Benjamin T. Green (Geraldine); a host of nieces; nephews; cousins; a loving and supportive church family; and many friends.

Alani Naomi Jenkins

Alani Naomi Jenkins, infant daughter of Jamiyah Littlejohn and Jaikwon Jenkins, was born in Spartanburg, SC on December 9, 2022.

She passed away on Tuesday, March 7th, in her home in Gaffney.

Alani was preceded in death by her great-grandmother, Ida Mae Foster Harbison. In addition to her parents, she leaves to cherish loving memories: a sister, Londyn Jenkins; a brother, Idean Jenkins; grandparents, Sammerah Robbs, Fred Littlejohn, Crystal Smith Jenkins, Cherika Shepherd and Joshua Jenkins; great-grandparents, Steve Robbs, Cynthia Robbs, Calleen Littlejohn and Rev. Mark Harbinson; aunts, uncles and other relatives.

A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, March 14th, 2:00 p.m., in Limestone Missionary Baptist Church with The Rev. Michael L. Golden and Elder Donnie Allen. Interment will follow in Gaffney Memorial Park.

The family is at the home of Stevette and Shonn Tate, 790 Oak Ridge Road, Gaffney.
