Babetta Joanna Weathers

Mrs. Babetta Joanna Weathers, age 48, of 901 Ridge Rd., Roxboro, NC, passed away Monday, August 29th, in Person Memorial Hospital, Roxboro, NC.

She was born in Cleveland County, NC, and was a daughter of Brenda Randall Weathers and the late Samuel Clifton Weathers.

Babetta was a member of New Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church in Macon, Georgia. She was an employee of Peachtree Nursing Centre.

In addition to her father, she was predeceased by a sister, Veronica Weathers.  She leaves to cherish loving memories: her mother, Brenda Weathers, of Spartanburg; sons, Timothy, Antonio, Jeremy (Nikki), and Gregory Weathers, and Phillip Lester, all of Gaffney, Samuel Weathers, of Union, SC; a daughter, Anastasia Lester, of Gaffney; a brother, Rev. Les Davis (Andrea), of Charlotte; NC, Freddy Meeks (Marisa), of Shelby; sisters, Tracy Parker, of Gaffney and Samantha Weathers, of Newark, NJ; nieces and nephews, including nephews, Qwaman and Darian Weathers, both of Gaffney; aunts, uncles, other relatives and friends.

Funeral Service will be held Monday, September 5, 2022, 2 p.m., in The Divine True Holiness Church of God in Blacksburg, with Overseer Theodore Lockhart and Rev. Les Davis. Interment will follow in the Church Cemetery.

The family is receiving friends at 608 Providence Rd., Gaffney.

Monica Latrice Burris

Monica Latrice Burris, 38, of 112 Martin Lane, Gaffney passed away Sunday, August 21st, in Spartanburg Medical Center.

She was born in Gaffney and was a daughter of Maurice Dawkins and the late Sarah Ann Byers Littlejohn.

Monica was a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church. She was a 2002 graduate of Gaffney High School and an employee of Freightliner.

She leaves to cherish loving memories: a son, D’Anthony Charles; a daughter, Saroyalty Burris; her father, Maurice Dawkins; sisters, Jameitras Jamison and Cierra Littlejohn; a brother, Maurice Burris, all of Gaffney; a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral Service will be Monday, 2:00 p.m. in Ebenezer Baptist Church with The Reverend Freddie Davidson officiating. She will lie in state at 1:00 p.m. in the church. Interment will follow in Ebenezer Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family is receiving friends at the residence.

Herbert Lewis “Hub” Gibbs

Herbert Lewis Gibbs was born July 15, 1943 in Cherokee County and was the son of Rev. Jesse Gibbs, Sr. and Minnie Hemphill Gibbs.

He was baptized and joined Limestone Missionary Baptist Church at an early age. “Hub” as he was affectionately called and “Boss Hog” by the Eastside friends. He was a “1961” graduate of Gaffney High School then later joined The United States Army and Navy. He worked in the Masonry field by trade for many years.

Mr. Gibbs passed away on Friday, July 19, 2022 in Spartanburg Medical Center after a brief illness. He was preceded in death by his brother, Robert Edward Gibbs and sister, Minnie Carol Gibbs.

He leaves to cherish loving memories: a daughter, Marva Tate Reid (John), of Spartanburg; Avery Tate, of Gaffney; two brothers, Jesse Gibbs, Jr. and Thomas Gibbs; three sisters, Mrs. Mary Wilkins of the home, Ms. Elayne McKenzie, of Maryland and Belinda Sheryl Gibbs, of the home; two aunts, Mrs. Gwendolyn Hemphill and Mrs. Lillie Ellen Thornton of Flint, MI; a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral Services will be held Thursday, August 25th, at 2:00 p.m., in The Gilmore Mortuary Chapel with the Rev. Dr. James Sanders, Jr. officiating and eulogy by the Rev. Michael L. Golden. Interment will be announced at a later date. The family is at the home of his brother, Thomas Gibbs, 100 Iris Lane. They will receive friends daily from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
