Evangelist Ruby Clark Askew

Evangelist Ruby Clark Askew, of 511 W. Robinson Street, passed away Friday, April 1, 2022, in her home.

Widow of Plato Askew, Sr., she was born in Cherokee County, SC and was a daughter of the late Thomas Clark Sr. and the late Ernestine Davis Clark.

She was a faithful and dedicated member of The Divine True Holiness Church of God in Blacksburg.  She served her church in many capacities including: Mother of the Church, Sunday School Teacher, Church Secretary, Church Treasurer, member of The Holy Gospel Singers, and Prison Ministry.

Ruby was well known and much loved in Blacksburg and Gaffney.  Her delicious cakes, creamed corn, country style steak and gravy graced many tables and delighted the taste buds of those who were blessed to partake of her culinary favors.  She was a former employee of Burton Dixie, and Nestle.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by two brothers, Sammy Clark and Thomas Clark, Jr.  She leaves to cherish loving memories: two sons, Plato Askew, Jr. (Owens), of Atlanta, GA, Keith Askew, Sr., (Ivey), of San Diego, CA; a daughter, Mary F. Clark, of Atlanta, two sisters, Mary Pearl Greer, of Greenville, SC, and Gloria Gaskins, of Taylors, SC; four grandchildren, Rajshun Livsey and Corbett Livsey (Forsheka), of Gaffney who were raised in the home, Keith Askew, Jr. (Ashley), and Jasmine Askew (Curtis), of California; seven great-grandchildren; a host of nieces and nephews, including a nephew, Kenny Terry, of Virginia, raised in the home; sisters-in-law, Thelma Clark, Ida Askew, and Debra Askew; God children, John Mickles (Ruby), Robert Elmore (Deborah), Kristielove Walls, and Charles Littlejohn; caregivers, Robert Gibbs, II, Priscilla Lockhart, Linda Belk, Dora James; a host of other relatives and many friends.

Funeral Service will be held Sunday, April 10th, 2:00 p.m., in Bethel Baptist Church with Bishop Willie Littlejohn, The Reverend Earl D. Simmons, Sr.; The Reverend J.W. Sanders, Jr., The Reverend Dr. Michael A. Bridges, The Reverend Dr. Timothy L. Hunter.  Interment will follow in The Divine True Holiness Church of God Cemetery.  The Service will be live-streamed  via https://www.facebook.com/bethelbaptistchurchgaffney.


Deacon Samuel L. Agnew

Deacon Samuel Agnew, 71, of 940 Limestone Court, Apt. M-58, Gaffney, passed away Friday, April 1, 2022, in Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home

He was born June 15, 1950 in Cherokee County to Robert and Vivian Jones Agnew.

Samuel was a member of Indian Hill Baptist Church where he was a Deacon, Grounds Keeper, and helped with the Shut In. For multiple years, he was a caregiver for his mother until her passing. He was also the caregiver for his brother, Robert.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Authur Agnew and a special friend, Ollie Norris.

He leaves to cherish loving memories: a son, Earl Agnew (Dana), of Gaffney, SC; a daughter, Leatrice Agnew, of Gaffney, SC; a brother, Roger Agnew, of Gaffney, SC; 7 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; a host of other relatives and friends.

A Funeral Service will be held Friday, April 8th, at 2:00 p.m., in Indian Hill Baptist Church, with the Rev. Michael Williamson officiating. Interment will follow in Oakland Cemetery. He will be in state at 1:00 p.m. in the church.

Jesse Austin Moody

Jesse Austin Moody, 42 of 112 Martin Lane, Gaffney, passed away Monday, March 7, 2022, in Cherokee Medical Center.

He was born in Brooklyn, NY and was a son of Mrs. Dee Warr Moody and the late Clive Moody.

Jesse was a member of Youngs Grove Baptist Church and attended Indian Hill Baptist Church. He was an employee of Limestone College.

He leaves to cherish loving memories: his mother, Dee Moody, of the home; his wife, Mrs. Faye Friday Moody; a son, Marque Harrison (Kelsey); grandson, Zackery Harrison, all of Shelby, NC; maternal grandfather, Robert A. Warr, of Silver Spring, MD; other relatives and friends.

A Funeral Service will be held Wednesday, 11:00 a.m., in Indian Hill Baptist Church with The Reverend Debra Williamson and The Reverend Eugenio Williams officiating.

He may be viewed at The Gilmore Mortuary Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., and Wednesday at the Church from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. The family requests that funeral attendees please wear Navy Blue.
