Mrs. Edith Elizabeth Smith Knuckles, 84, of 107 Iris Lane, Gaffney, passed away Thursday, April 15th , in Mary Black Hospital, Spartanburg.
Widow of Joe Dean Knuckles, she was born in Gaffney and was the daughter of the late Walker and Ethel Wood Smith.
Edith was 1955 graduate of Granard High School. She was a member of Bethel Baptist Church where she served as a deaconess and member of the choir. She was a member of Whitaker Chapter #127 Order of the Eastern Star. Edith was a retired Teacher’s Aide and a former member of the Cherokee County Voter Registration Board.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by a son, Bennett Smith (Linda).
Edith leaves to cherish loving memories: a son Derrick Knuckles (Kim), of Clemson, SC;
daughter-in-law, Linda Smith, of Gaffney; two grandchildren, Samantha Hammond, of
Greenville, SC., and Erica Smith of Gaffney; two great-grandchildren, Christian Roberts of
Greenville, SC., and Jayden Smith of Gaffney; God-daughter, Carolyn Dawkins, of Gaffney;
a host of cousins, including her caregiver, Doris Littlejohn of Gaffney, SC., and Vicki Cyr, of
Boiling Springs, SC.; brother-in-law, Charles F. Knuckles (Cordelia); sisters-in-law,
Clynthree Knuckles Oglesby and Lee Knuckles Webster, of Gaffney; nieces; nephews; and
friends.
Public Viewing will be held Monday, April 19th, from 10:00 to 6:00 p.m.
A Graveside Service will be held Tuesday, April 20th, 11:00 a.m., in Gaffney Memorial Park with Rev. Dr. J.W. Sanders, Jr. officiating.
