Flora Gist-Evans

Mrs. Flora Gist-Evans, age 87, of Cowpens, passed away Saturday, October 16th, in Cherokee Medical Center.

Widow of Gerald Evans, Sr., she was born in York, SC and was a daughter of the late Julian and Grace Rutherford Gist.

Flora was a member of Dunton United Methodist Church. She was a 1952 graduate of Granard High School. She received a B.S. Degree from Benedict College, Columbia, SC and a Licensed Practical Nursing Degree from Spartanburg Technical College.

She was also preceded in death by three siblings, Willie V. Gist, Wilhelmina Gist Tyner, and Audrey Gist Malone. She leaves to cherish loving memories: two sons, Gerald Evans, Jr., (Jelena) of Riverview, FL and Kenneth Evans, Sr., of Atlanta, GA; a sister, Avon Jenkins, of Philadelphia, PA; grandchildren, Alexander Evans, Elizabeth, Lequita, Kenyatta Evans, Kenneth Evans, Jr, and Tiffany Evans; nine great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.

A Memorial Service will be held Wednesday, October 20th, 2:00 p.m., in Dunton United Methodist Church with The Reverend Calvin Smith officiating.

Elizabeth B. Moaney

Elizabeth B. Moaney, age 87, of 504 Browning Road, Gaffney, passed away Wednesday, October 13th, in her residence. She was born in Cherokee County, and was a daughter of the late James and Mary Byrd Brown.

Elizabeth was a retired Security Guard at Pratt &Whitney Aerospace Engineers in Hartford. She was a member of Philadelphia Baptist Church. She was a 1953 graduate of Granard High School.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by two brothers, James Brown, Jr. and Edward Brown

She was leaves to cherish loving memories: two brothers, Willie Dean Brown, of San Antonio, TX and John Ray Brown, Sr. (Nellie), of Gaffney; two sisters, Mary Louise Oglesby, of Hartford, CT and Betty Jean Ellis (Eugene), of Bloomfield, CT; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Services will be Private.


Louenia Wilson Tate

Louenia Wilson Tate, 71, of 203 Mt. Sinai Church Road, Shelby, NC, passed away Thursday, October 7, 2021, in Atrium Health, Shelby.

Wife of Howard Tate, she was born in Cherokee County and was a daughter of the late J.W. Wilson and Hazel Marlowe Wilson.

She was a graduate of Dunbar High School in Dayton, Ohio and received an Associate Degree in Business from Cleveland College in Shelby.

Louenia was a member of Mt. Sinai Baptist Church where she served as a Missionary, Deaconess, Sunday School Teacher, and former member of the Musical Choir.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Marlowe; a sister, Joyce Ann Carr and Janet Cooper. In addition to her husband, she is survived by a son, Brandy Tate, (Nichole), of Dallas, NC; a daughter, Droxie Tate, of McLean, VA; two brothers, Lewis Blanton (Pat) and Rev. Rodney Davidson (Lisa), of Gaffney; two sisters, Doris Wilson and Gwen Marlowe, of Dayton, OH; grandsons, Brennen Tate and Brentson Tate, both of Dallas; aunts, uncles, other relatives and friends.

A Funeral Service will be held Wednesday, 2:00 p.m., in Mt. Sinai Baptist Church with The T Pastor, The Reverend C.A. Wallace, eulogist and The Reverend Robert Dover officiating.
Interment will be in the church cemetery. She will be in state in the church Wednesday at 1:00 p.m.
