Evelyn Ellis Smith

Evelyn Ellis Smith, age 67, of 101 Nehemiah Lane, passed away Saturday, August 7th, in Spartanburg Medical Center.

She was born in Norfolk, Virginia, and was a daughter of the late Sam W. Ellis, Sr. and Elnita Oglesby Ellis.

She was a member of Christ Miracle and Deliverance Outreach Ministries where she was honored as “Mother of the Church.”
Evelyn was employed as a CNA with Interim Health. She was a former receptionist at Piedmont Community Actions.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by four siblings, Sam Ellis, Jr., Robert Ellis, Helen Bailey, and Tina Wilson Smith. She leaves to cherish loving memories: a son, Patrick Smith (Patrice), of Spartanburg, three daughters, Catina Lipscomb (Donald), Priscilla Washington, and Lisa Smith, all of Gaffney; brothers, James Ellis, Sr. (Jeneva), of Kings Mountain, Stanley Ellis, Sr., of Gastonia, Carl Bailey (Tina), of Glen Burnie, MD, Maurice Ellis (JoAnne), Willie Lee Ellis, Sr., Kavin Wilson, Randy Wilson, and Billy Tate, all of Gaffney; sisters, Elizabeth Gaffney (Dean), Amelia Marie Evans, and Angel Davis (Tim), all of Gaffney, Audrey Smith, of Spartanburg; 14 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.

A Graveside Service will be held Saturday, 12 noon, in Concord Baptist Church Cemetery with The Reverend Dr. Michael A. Bridges officiating.

The family is at the home of Catina and Donald Lipscomb, 161 Ellis Ferry Road, Gaffney, SC.

Danny Lee Burnside, Jr.

(Greer)-Danny Lee Burnside Jr. 32 was born in Greenville, SC on April 15, 1989. He was a son of Dr. Danny Lee (Alisha) Burnside Sr. of Boiling Springs, SC and Kendra Rice Burnside of Greer.

Educated in the public school of Spartanburg County, SC, he was a 2008 graduate of James F. Byrnes High School. He continued his education by attending ITT Technical Institution in Greenville, SC.

Danny accepted Christ at an early age and joined Moore’s Chapel Baptist Church in Duncan, SC.

On June 28, 2014 he was joined in holy matrimony to the former Shantay Adams and to this union three children were born. He was a former dietician for Palmetto Health Baptist Hospital in Columbia.

His favorite song was God Loves Me by The Canton Spirituals and he loved singing in Moore’s Chapel Youth Of Faith Choir. He loved to fish and was an avid Atlanta Falcon’s fan.

On Tuesday Afternoon at precisely 12:22 pm, Danny received his wings and transformed from labor to reward in his residence in Elgin, SC surrounded by his wife and children.

He was preceded in death by his step-father, Mr. Kelvin Robbs, his maternal grandfather, Rev. Fred K. Murray Sr. and his paternal grandmother, Ms. Essie Adams.

Also surviving are: his wife, Shantay N. Burnside; a son, Danny Lee Burnside III; 2 daughters, Kiara and Ka’loni Burnside, all of Elgin, SC; a sister, Octavious (David) Pitts of Roebuck, SC; maternal grand parents, Sennie (Freddie) Davis of Wellford, SC, Rev. Marcella Murray of Spartanburg, SC; paternal grandparents, Dan (mammie) Williams of Travelers Rest, SC; nieces, nephews, a host of other relatives and many friends.

Viewing will be Monday, August 9, 2021 from 1:00 until 6:00 pm., in The Gilmore Mortuary, Greer, SC. 214 Memorial Drive; Greer, South Carolina 29650

Funeral Services will be held at 3:00 pm Tuesday in Maple Creek Missionary Baptist Church ( 609 South Main Street Greer, SC 29651 ) with Rev. Earl D. Simmons, Sr. and Rev. Kenneth Murray Jr., Officiating.

Elvena Jefferies Hollis

Cowpens)  Elvena Jefferies Hollis, 87, of 130 Huff Road, Cowpens, passed away on Friday, July 30, in SpartanburgRegional Medical Center. 

Widow of Roosevelt J. Hollis, she was born in Cherokee County and was the daughter of the late Iola Jefferies. 

She was a member of Island Creek Baptist Church in Cowpenswhere she served as an usher, member of the Victory Choir, Gospel Choir, Senior Missionaries, and Sunday School Adult Class. She was a retired employee of Hamricks Industries.

In addition to her parents and husband, Elvena was predeceased two daughters, Angela and Gloria Hollis; two siblings, J.C. Jefferies and Horace Dover.  Surviving are a daughter, Sarah Hollis, of Cowpens, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. 

The family will receive friends on Friday, August 6, 2021 at TheGilmore Mortuary, Gaffney, from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. 

The Funeral Service will be held Saturday, August 7th, 1:00 p.m. in Island Creek Baptist Church with The Reverend Dr. Timothy L. Hunter, officiating. Interment will be in Island Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.
