Dorothy Smith Oglesby

OglesbyDorothy Smith Oglesby, 82, of 132 Water Mill Rd., Cowpens, entered eternal rest on Monday, February 29th, in her home.

Widow of Wyatt Oglesby, Jr., she was born in Gaffney and was a daughter of the late Landrum and Flossie Morgan Smith.

She was a 1950 graduate of Granard High School where she was a member of the Basketball Team and the school’s May Queen in 1950.

Mrs. Oglesby was a member of Limestone Missionary Baptist Church where she served as a former member of the Gospel Choir.

She was preceded in death by a son, Wyatt Oglesby, III and siblings, Richard, Landrum Jr., Alvin, Billy, and Elizabeth.

Surviving are: three daughters, Vanessa Weeks and Wanda Taylor of the home, Wendy McShaw (Floyd) of Cowpens; one brother, Eugene Smith (Marilyn) of Gaffney; two grandchildren, Crystal Weeks and Timothy Oglesby (Casey); two great-grandchildren, Taylor Fowlks and Jordan Oglesby.

Funeral Services will be Saturday, March 5, 2016 at 2:00 p.m., in Piney Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Cowpens with Rev. Arthur J. Smith officiating. Interment will follow in Gaffney Memorial Park. She will be in state in the church Saturday at 1:00 p.m.

John Lathan Littlejohn

John Lathan Littlejohn, 65, of 311 E. Ridge Street, Kings Mountain, NC, entered eternal rest on Sunday, February 28th, in Forest City, NC.

He was born in Gaffney and was a son of Dan and Lucille Keeter of Gaffney.

He was a graduate of Wofford College and Spartanburg Methodist College. Mr. Littlejohn was a veteran of the U.S. Army and a retired employee of Saturn Automobile Industries.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Artie Allen “Cutie” Vaught, and a sister, Gloria Petty.

Surviving: 1 son, Jarvis Lathan Littlejohn of Forest City; 2 daughters, Hershell Littlejohn of Forest City and Lisa Hart of Kings Mountain; 3 grandchildren; four siblings, Danny Vaught, Walter C. Vaught, Jr., Timothy Vaught, and Lois Vaught Kiffle.

Memorial Services will be Sunday, March 6, 2016 at 3:00 p.m., in The Gilmore Mortuary Chapel.

Nelson Butler

Nelson-ButlerNelson Butler, Jr., 73, of 200 Boiling Springs Highway, entered eternal rest on Thursday, February 25, 2016 in Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.

Husband of Helen Hughes Butler, he was born in Cherokee County and was a son of the late Nelson Butler, Sr. and Ella McCollum Butler.

Nelson was a member of Marion Avenue Church of Christ where he served as Bible Study teacher and former Church Treasurer.

He was a graduate of Granard High School, a veteran of the U.S. Army and Vietnam War, and a retired employee of Overnite Transportation Company.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Pete Butler and Nelson Butler,

III (Latoya); 3 daughters, Helen Kay Butler, Beverly Davis (George), all of Gaffney, Teresa Littlejohn of El Paso, Texas; one sister, Helen Camp of Gaffney; 9 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be Tuesday, March 1, 2016 at 1 p.m., in The Gilmore Mortuary Chapel with Brother King Littlejohn officiating. Interment will follow in Oakland Cemetery.
