James Harold Capers

James Harold Capers was born on January 31, 1950 in Islandton, SC to James Capers and Helen Mole Capers.

At an early age, his family relocated to Jacksonville, Florida. He attended Duval County Schools in Jacksonville and received his Welding Certification from JOIC. James, known to family and friends as “Jimmy,” was a Veteran of the U.S. Army. He was unit-ed in Holy Matrimony to Moda Virginia Young, known to family and friends as “Gin” or Virgin-ia”. They relocated to Blacksburg, SC where he joined Young’s Grove Baptist Church. He was a faithful member and served on the Deacon Board, Usher Board, and as a Sunday School Teach-er. When his health began to decline, he stepped down, but continued to be active and dedicated to his Church and Church Family. James was a talker and never met a stranger. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his step-father, Wilmont Sweet, and god-son, Robert Lattany, Jr.

Jimmy leaves to cherish loving memories: his wife of fifty years, Virginia, of the home; sons, James III (Cynthia) Capers, Ateba Capers, and Vincent Capers; a sister, Soletha (Greg); Griffen; an uncle, Sam Capers; aunts, Elizabeth Capers, Edith (Willie) Wright, and Clouggeon Crosby; four grandchildren; Tanysia Mills, Jaevin McGill, Jaylen Mills, and Daniella Cepeda; sisters-in-law, Bessie (Luther) Collins, Olivia Collins, Shirley (Frank) Crosby, and Tama Summerour; two brothers-in-law, Odell (Janie) Young and Wendell Young, god-son, Fabian Crosby; best friend, Ronnie Adams; bonus sister, Lisa Linder, bonus brother, Gary Summerour; great-nephew, Jakob Young (who would brighten up his day); a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, 3:00 p.m. in Young’s Grove Baptist Church with The Reverend Dr. Larry Brooks officiating. Interment, with Military Honors, will follow in the Church Cemetery.

James Andrew Wilkins, Jr., 54, of 100 Huntington Square Dr. Apt-3C, Gaffney, passed away Sunday, October 13, 2024 in Cherokee Medical Center.

A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, October 26th, 1:00 p.m., in The Gilmore Mortuary Chapel with The Rev. Dr. Timothy L. Hunter, officiating.

Elizabeth Ann Boyd

Elizabeth Ann Boyd, 59, of 2581 Old Georgia Highway, Gaffney, passed away Thursday, October 10th, in Cherokee Medical Center.

Widow of Eddie Boyd, Jr., she was born in Gaffney and was a daughter of the late Bobby and Garnell Smith Oglesby.

She was a graduate of Gaffney High School, a member of Greater Hope Ministries, and a former employee of Peachtree Centre.

“Libby” was also preceded in death by a sister, Sandra Smith. She leaves to cherish loving memories: a special friend, Dirk Shipp three daughters, Tasha Boyd (Johnathan Kesler), Riketah Boyd Douglas (Carvito Douglas), and Tonitra Smith (reared in her home); Billy Smith and Edward Smith (reared in her home); a brother, Rickey Smith, of Gaffney; a sister, Dr. Sharon Jefferies (Quinton Jefferies), of Gaffney; grandchildren, Serenity Tate, Janiyah Kesler, and Carvito Douglas, Jr.; a great-grandchild, Delani Smith; other relatives and friends.

A Funeral Service will be held Saturday, 2:00 p.m., in Bethel Baptist Church with Pastors, James Sanders, Jr., Caroline Allen Jones, and Kirk Smith. Interment will follow in Mt. Sinai Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family is at the home of Riketah and Carvito Douglas, 133 Blanton Drive, Gaffney.
