Bessie Mae Camp

Bessie Mae Camp was always happy to see her family and friends enter the door to her home at 617 Littlejohn Street. Her welcoming spirit made the house feel comfortable and like home to so many. On March 12, 2024 Bessie was called home to the Lord while in the arms of family and surrounded by friends. 

Bessie (73) was born February 25, 1951 in Cherokee County and loved to tease her family with her “two birthdays” each year claiming this day was incorrect while accepting well wishes both days. She is the daughter of the late Bee Junior Camp and the late Maggie Olivia Huskey Camp.

Bessie was full of love for family and friends with her own way to make everyone feel a little special. She loved God and enjoyed gospel radio. Bessie graduated Gaffney High School in 1970 and was formerly employed at Gaffney Manufacturing Textile Plant, Alcoa and Atlas Foods in Freightliner. 

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her brothers Mr. Eddie Huskey, Mr. L.D. Huskey, Mr. Sammy Lee Huskey, Mr. William “Deanie” Camp; sisters, Mrs. Doris Crosby (the late Bennie Lee Crosby) and Mrs. Patricia Ann Camp Shippy.

Her surviving family is full of devoted brothers, sisters, cousins, aunts and extended family that have provided so much through her extended illness. All of those people are not included in this list but all have the family’s love and gratitude. Her brother, Mr. James Camp (Mary) of Gaffney, South Carolina; sisters, Mrs. Kathleen Adams of the home, Mrs. Alta Mae Thompson of Gaffney, South Carolina; sisters-in-law Mrs. Evelyn Huskey of Gaffney South Carolina, Mrs. Ella Huskey of Baltimore Maryland; bonus sister, Beverly Ogelsby of Gaffney, South Carolina; five special nieces of the home, Mrs. Clynthia Camp (Dewey Whittenburg), Mrs. Margaret Webster (Franky), Ms. Shardae Norris, Mrs. Tonya Dorsey (Shawn) of Gaffney, South Carolina and Mrs. Cantania Hollis of Boiling Springs, South Carolina; Also a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, neighbors, and friends that  are too numerous to count. 

A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, March 16, 2024, at 11:00 a.m., in The Gilmore Mortuary Chapel with The Reverend Robert Dover and Minister Stephanie Tate.

The family is receiving friends at the home.

Henry Sanders Armstrong

Henry Sanders Armstrong, age 82, of 145 Seminole Trail, Cowpens, passed away Monday, March 11, 2024, at his residence. Husband of Lolan Littlejohn Armstrong, he was the son of the late Davis and Elnora Davis Armstrong.

He was employed as an Agriculture Landscaper at Sunny Slope for many years until his retirement.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by siblings: Watson, Fred, and Scott Armstrong, Hattie Smith, Alice Lee Thompson, Elouise Colston, and Lillie “Missy” Littlejohn.

Henry leaves to cherish loving memories: his wife, Lolan Littlejohn Armstrong; five sons, Henry “P.Y.” Littlejohn, Jimmy Armstrong, Melvin Armstrong (Princess), Westley Armstrong; two daughters, Peggy Armstrong and Nora Armstrong (Gerald); a brother, Davis “June” Armstrong; a nephew reared in the home, Herbert Colston; a grandson reared in the home, Jamarcus Armstrong; 23 grandchildren; 29 great grandchildren; a great-great- grandchild; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

A Funeral Service will be held, Saturday, March 16, 2024, at 2:00 p.m., in The Gilmore Mortuary Chapel, with the Reverend Dr. Rayfield Hamrick officiating. Interment will follow in Gaffney Memorial Park.

The family is receiving friends at his sons’, Westley Armstrong, 630 Mayo Road, Gaffney.

Johnny Frank Byers

Johnny Franklin Byers was born in Gaffney, SC on July 6, 1948. He was the son of the late Frank Byers and Lillie Bell Shippy Byers.

His life came to a close on March 6, 2024, at Cherokee Medical Center.

Johnny was preceded in death by two daughters, Mary Louise Studyvance and Willie Mae Studyvance Goode, and a sister Strossie Sarratt.

Left to cherish loving memories are his wife of 57 years, Mary Frances Studyvance Byers of the home; sons, Dr. James Frank Byers (Ruby) and Warren Byers, of Gaffney, Melvin Harrison and Alvin Harrison (Rochelle), of Boston, Massachusetts; daughters, Johnnie Woodson, Frances Ann Byers, and Lillie Hughes (Russell), all of Gaffney, and Jessica Serrano, of Atlanta, Georgia; grandchildren reared in the home, Dewan Byers, Jonathan Byers, and Latwuan Byers; sisters Rosa Lee Studyvance, Patricia Sarratt, Shirley Dover, and Pearlie Mae Littlejohn, all of Gaffney, brothers, Dean Byers and Jamie Byers (Rosa), of Gaffney, Francis Byars, of Clarksville, Tennessee, and Joseph Byers (Brenda), of Brooklyn, New York; 27 grandchildren, 33 great- grandchildren, and a host of relatives and friends.

A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, March 15th, at 2:00 p.m., at The Gilmore Mortuary Chapel. The repast will be at MK Event Center immediately following the service.
