Douglas Antonio Dawkins, Sr.

Douglas Antonio Dawkins, Sr, 60, of 473 Lockhart Lane, Gaffney, passed away Friday, June 9, 2023, in Veterans Hospital, Richmond, VA.


He was born in Gaffney and was a son of the late Jimmy Phillips and the late Verdell Dawkins Phillips.
He was a 1981 graduate of Gaffney High School and a veteran of the United States Army. He was a member of Greater New Faith Baptist Church.


Douglas was preceded in death by a sister, Carla Phillips. He leaves to cherish loving memories: his former wife (31 years), Angelia Sizemore-Dawkins, of Gaffney; three sons, Douglas Dawkins, Jr., Dareon Bridges, Jervis Shippy (Shandreka), all of Gaffney; four daughters, Joya Dawkins, Jocelyn Bonner, Dakeia Bridges Rodgers (Richard), and Dakara Bridges, all of Gaffney; brothers, Mickel Dawkins (Robin), of Boiling Springs, SC, Clinton Phillips, of Charlotte, NC; three sisters, Charlene Brown (Doug), Charlotte Wade (Andre), Vicki Yarborough (Fredrick), all of Gaffney; 17 grandchildren; other relatives and friends.


The Funeral Service and Military Rites will be held Monday, 1:00 p.m., in The Gilmore Mortuary Chapel with The Rev. Tony Makupson officiating.

Lawrence “Ronnie” Collins, III

Lawrence “Ronnie” Collins, III, 76, of 140 Moda Road, Blacksburg, SC, passed away Monday, June 12, 2023, in Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home.

Husband of Olivia Young Collins, he was born in Spartanburg County, SC and was a son of the late Lawrence Collins, II and the late Naomi Thompson Collins.

He was a graduate of Boggs Academy in Keysville, GA. Lawrence was a veteran of the United States Army, a truck driver, and a member of Youngs Grove Baptist Church.

He leaves to cherish loving memories: his wife, Olivia, of the home; a son, Kelvin Young (Rupi), of Charlotte, NC; 4 grandchildren, Mya, Karsen, Rhyen, and Jakob Young, all of Charlotte; nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.

A Funeral Service will be held Saturday, 3:00 p.m. in Youngs Grove Baptist Church with The Rev. Dr. Larry Brooks, officiating. Military Rites and Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Lavender L. Davis

Lavander L. Davis, 69, of 121 Blackwell Farm Road, Gaffney, passed away Wednesday, June 7th, in Spartanburg Medical Center, Spartanburg, SC.

Husband of Wilma Dawkins Davis, he was born in Washington, D.C. and was a son of the late Charles Davis, Jr. and the late Juanita Proctor Davis.

Lavander was a member of Bethel Baptist Church and a retiree of Nestle.

He was preceded in death by two sons, Shawn and Kip Dawkins; two siblings, Denise Bryant and Vanzago Davis. He leaves to cherish loving memories: his wife, Wilma, of the home; sons, Joel Trent Dawkins (Quensen) and Keith Paysour (Christie), of Gaffney; daughters, Lolita Rob-erts (Paul), of Baltimore, MD., Traci Smith, Dysheka Smith, of Gaffney, Shavonia “Necey” Law-rence (Darrell), of Washington, D.C.; sisters-in-law, Maxine Anderson, of Bronx, NY and Regina Davis, of Maryland; his Best Friend, Larry Derricott (Pat), of Washington, GA; 18 grandchil-dren; 18 great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.

A Funeral Service will be held Saturday, 1:00 p.m., in Bethel Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. James Sanders officiating. Interment will follow in Gaffney Memorial Park.
