Forace Lee Thompson

Forace Lamar Thompson, 79, of Decatur, Georgia, passed away Thursday, January 12, 2023, in Georgia.

Husband of Annie Price Thompson, he was born in Cherokee County, SC and was a son of the late Horace Thompson, Sr. and the late Mrs. Ira Sherrill Thompson.

Forace was a member of Beulah Baptist Church in Decatur.  He was a graduate of Granard High School, a veteran of the U.S. Navy, and a retiree of Avis Car Rental Company.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Lance Thompson, and brothers, Larry, Gene, and Charles Thompson.

He leaves to cherish loving memories: his wife, Annie, of the home; three brothers, Horace Thompson, Jr., of The Bronx, NY, Weldon Thompson, of Gaffney, and Maurice Thompson, of Charlotte, NC; two sisters, Blony Griffith (Brian), of Charlotte, NC and Bonnie Thompson, of The Bronx, NY; two aunts, Lillian Coulter, of Newton, NC and Maggie Hewie, of Brooklyn, NY; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

A Funeral Service will be held Tuesday, January 24th, in Beulah Baptist Church, Decatur, GA.  A Service will be held on Wednesday, 12:00 noon, in Youngs Grove Baptist Church, Blacksburg, SC with The Reverend Dr. Larry Brooks officiating.  Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Nellie Ann Hollis

Mrs. Nellie Ann Petty Hollis, age 82, of 515 Grambling Ferry Road, Gaffney, passed away Wednesday, January 18th, in her home.

Wife of Victor Hollis, she was born in Mooresboro, NC and was a daughter of the late Fred and Daisy Hopper Petty.

Nellie was a member of Suck Creek Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by siblings, Archie Petty, Alice Thompson, and Minnie Smith; and two grandchildren.

She leaves to cherish loving memories: her husband, Victor Hollis, of the home; five sons, Thomas “Button” Hollis, James Richard Hollis, Robert “Bunyan” Hollis (Tequita), and Ronald Anthony “Man” Hollis, all of Gaffney, Nathan Lee Hollis, of the home; two daughters, Margaret Lipscomb (Woody), of Gaffney and Dorothy Hollis Littlejohn, of Spartanburg, SC; two sisters, Gracie Smith of Gaffney and Lula Lee (Ernest), of Shelby; twenty-five grandchildren; a host of great and great-great grandchildren; other relatives and friends.

A Funeral Service will be held Monday, 2:30 p.m. in the Gilmore Mortuary Chapel with The Rev. Arthur J. Smith officiating.  Interment will follow in Suck Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.

Mrs. Mary Corry Foster

Mrs. Mary Corry Foster, 87, of 400 Chestnut Ridge Road, Gaffney, SC, passed away Monday, January 16th, in Spartanburg Medical Center.

She was born in Cherokee County and was a daughter of the late David and Rodell Logan Corry.  She was the widow of Deacon William Foster, Jr.

She was a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church where she served in several capacities including: deaconess, Mother of the Church, and Sunday School Teacher. She was also a Boy Scouts Den Mother.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by: seven siblings, her twin sister, Azzie Lee Davis, Addie McLean, Jay Corry, Alberta Doiley, Henry Corry, Frances Foster and Wes Corry; and a grandchild, Gantry Foster.

Left to cherish loving memories are: three sons, Glen Foster (Lisa) of Spartanburg, Richard Corry and Venson Foster (Katrina Mitchem) of Gaffney; two daughters, Brenda Simmons (Samuel) of Spartanburg and Schylver Foster of Greenville, SC; a brother, Joe Corry of Gaffney; two sisters, Ruby Corry and Dorothy Littlejohn, both of Gaffney; five grandchildren, LaToya Corry, Logan Foster, Keenen Corry, Taron Foster, and Keionna Corry; two great- grandchildren, Kameryn Corry and Karsen Burris;  other relatives and friends.

A Funeral Service will be held Saturday, January 21st, 1:00 p.m., in Concord Baptist Church with Rev. Freddy Davidson and Dr. Michael Bridges. Interment will follow in Ebenezer Baptist Church Cemetery.
