Dean Bradley “Brad” Huskey

Dean Bradley “Brad” Huskey was born on November 6, 1969 to Willie Dean Huskey and Lizzie Ruth Tate Huskey in Gaffney, SC.

He lived his life to the fullest. Although he was sick for a very long time, he never complained. He always had something to say to either make you mad, of make you laugh.

Brad graduated from Gaffney Sr. High Class of “88”. He worked at Cherokee Finishing Company until he became disabled. He joined Mt. Tabor Baptist Church at a young age and sang on the Youth Choir.

He enjoyed riding four wheelers, fishing, and raising dogs and chickens. He thought he was the best spades and connect four player in the world!

Brad peacefully transitioned to his home in Heaven on October 15, 2022.
He was preceded in death by his father Willie Dean Huskey.

He leaves to cherish many fond memories his mother Lizzie Ruth Tate Huskey; a daughter, Kirsten Gary, of Greenville, SC; a sister, Sylvia Regina Bryd (John), of Simpsonville, SC; a brother, Hervin Duran Huskey, of Gaffney, SC; four aunts, Bernell Tate, Sarah Tate, Shelia Ratchford (Warren), all of Gaffney, Willie Mae Huskey, of Blacksburg, SC; two uncles, Charles Tate (Mary) and Victor Tate, both of Gaffney, SC; nieces and nephews, Relina Parker (Wayne), of Simpsonville, SC, Destiny Williams (Michael), of Columbia, SC, Justice Huskey, Duran Huskey and Kingston Huskey, all of Gaffney; one great nephew, Israel W. Parker, of Simpsonville, SC, four God children whom he was very fond of, Eddie & Tyrek Smith, Duke Littlejohn, Keeon Tate, all of Gaffney, SC; a host of cousins, other relatives, and friends.

Funeral Services will be held Saturday, October 22, 2022, 1:00 p.m., in Mt. Tabor Baptist Church with the Rev. Darrell Smith officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

The family has requested no viewing or visitation at the Mortuary. They are not receiving visitors at the home, instead, they will receive friends in the church from noon to 1:00 p.m. on Saturday.

Lavell Najah Lane

Lavell NaJah Lane, 29, 9f 611 8th Street, Gaffney, passed away Monday, October 3, 2022, in
Spartanburg, SC.

He was born in Brooklyn, NY and was a son of Andy Reese and Beverly Lane-Reese of the home.

Lavell was of the Pentecostal Faith. He attended Howard University in Washington D.C. where he was a member of the Howard University Track Team. He excelled in the sport and was awarded a full scholarship.

Lavell leaves to cherish loving memories: his parents, Andy and Beverly Lane-Reese, of the home; his siblings, Andrew Reese, Anthony Reese, Elijah Lane, Rockell Thomas (Prescott), Jennifer Reese, Roxann Thomas (Kesean), April Lane, Andrea Reese, Thomas Jones, Alonzo Jones, Bertha English Jones, Andy Reese, Jr., Andy Davis, Randy Davis, and Anquinette Reese; other relatives and friends.

Public Viewing will be held Monday, October 10, 2022 from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm.

A Funeral Service will be held Tuesday, 2:00 pm., in Mt. Sinai Missionary Baptist Church with The Reverend C.A. Wallace officiating.

Interment will follow in New Mt. Zion Baptist Church Cemetery.

Deacon Jacob C. Hunter, Sr.

Deacon Jacob C. Hunter, Sr., 93, of 222 Collins Road, Spartanburg, SC, passed away Sunday, October 2, 2022 in Palmetto Patriot’s Home, Gaffney, SC.

He was a son of the late Trossie Cleo Hunter, Sr. and the late Mrs, Addie Cora Tucker Hunter. “Jake” was the widower of Mrs. Valiree Dewberry Hunter.

He was a member and deacon of Island Creek Baptist Church; an Army Veteran of the Korean War

In addition to his parents and wife, he was also predeceased by two daughters, infant Cathy Hunter and Mrs. Rosa Mae Hunter Underwood; and four siblings: Trossie Jr., Mrs. Tecora Oliver, Bennie Hunter, and Lincoln Hunter.

Surviving are: five children, Mrs. Margaret Sarratt (Retired Master Sergeant James), Rev. Jacob C. Hunter, Jr (Linda), Mrs. Gloria Dawkins (Mark), Roy Hunter, and A. Ray Hunter (Jada); son-in-law, Calvin Underwood; siblings, Mrs. Ceola Posey, Mrs. Ruby Mae Brackett, Mrs. Gladys Johnson, Mrs. Judy foster, and Deacon Columbus Hunter; sister-in-law, Elaine Hunter; 8 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; 4 great-great grandchildren; other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be held Friday, October 7th, from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. in The Gilmore Mortuary in Gaffney.

A Funeral Service with Military Rites will be held Saturday, October 8th, 11:00 a.m., in Island Creek Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Timothy L. Hunter officiating. Interment will follow in the Church Cemetery.
