Roy was born in Cherokee County, South Carolina on July 27, 1954 to William and Carrie Nell Banks Davis.

Roy was a member of Concord Baptist Church.  He graduated from Gaffney High School in 1972 and Barber Scotia College, Concord, North Carolina, in 1977 where he earned a Bachelor of Science Degree. Roy furthered his education at Fisk University in Tennessee and the University of South Carolina Upstate in Spartanburg.

He was employed by SC Works as an Employment Specialist, Milliken and Company as a Research Associate, and Achem Corporation as a Quality Control Lab Assistant Manager. Roy also served as a tutor for the Cherokee County Literacy Association.  He was a member of Gamma Kappa Kappa Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. and served as Keeper of Records and Seals.  He was instrumental in re-chartering the local chapter.

Roy was preceded in death by his parents and by three brothers, John W., Marvin L., and Lamon E. Davis. Roy passed away on Thursday, August 14, 2019 in Spartanburg Restorative Care, Spartanburg, South Carolina.

He leaves to cherish special memories: his beloved sisters, Carolyn Monroe (Roy) and Gloria Davis; nieces and nephews, Timeara Monroe, Trisha Monroe, Merlita Orme (Jerry), Celeste Jones, Tojuanna Broderick (Michael), Jenell Davis, Nicole Davis, and Wanda Cloud (Donald); great nephews, Tyrone Davis, Brandon Marrow (Shaina), Jordan Cloud, Dean Cloud, and Michael Cloud; a host of other relatives and many friends.

The Funeral Service will be Tuesday, August 20th at 2pm, in Concord Baptist Church with Dr. Michael A. Bridges officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
