Shirley Dawkins Cumberlander, 74, of 2714 12th St., NE, Washington, D.C., was called to eternal rest on Wednesday, Dec. 25, 2013, in Washington.
Widow of Casey Cumberlander Jr., she was born in Cherokee County, a daughter of James Haskell “Hack” Dawkins and Eugenia Wells Dawkins. She was a Baptist and a graduate of Granard High School.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a son, Eric Dawkins, and siblings, Calvin, Robert, Gabe, Charles, Julie Mae Smith, Mary Worthy and Jacqueline Lightening.
Surviving are a son, Casey “Jim” (Pennee) Cumberlander III of Maryland; two daughters, Shevonia “Neisey” Dawkins of Maryland and Janine “Pot” Cumberlander of Washington, D.C.; nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Verniece Montgomery, Wilma Davis (Lavander), both of Gaffney, and Maxine McFadden (David) of Bronx, N.Y.; a sister-in-law, Malissa Durrah of Cowpens; and a brotherin law, J.C. Cumberlander (Dorothy) of Gaffney.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Dec. 31, at Isle of Patmos Baptist Church, 1200 Isle of Patmos Plaza, Washington, D.C. Interment will be in Fort Lincoln Cemetery.
