Tony Gibbs was born July 21, 1961, in Cherokee County to Ms. Minnie Carol Gibbs.
“Motoe”, as he was so affectionately called, was a graduate of GHS “Class of 1980”. He was a retiree of Freightliner Inc. He was a member of Concord Baptist Church, where he served diligently on the All Male Choir, Trustee Board, and Usher Board.
Motoe was a die-hard fan of the Dallas Cowboys. He enjoyed riding his Harley- Davidson, cruising around town in his Corvette and his Vanderhall.
Tony was a loving person who never met a stranger. He loved spending time with his Eastside friends, as well as his SunPower Softball Team.
He passed away Thursday, May 12, 2022, at his residence after a long illness. He was preceded in death by his mother, Minnie Carol Gibbs and a brother, Kenneth Renard Gibbs.
He leaves to cherish loving memories: a daughter, Laquanda Littlejohn, of Tennessee; two sons, Shannon Harris and Tyus Gibbs (Monique), of Shelby, NC; eight grandchildren; 1 great grandchild; five brothers, Ricky Gibbs (Rosa), Darryl Gibbs (Bobbie), John Gibbs, Keith Gibbs, Brian Gibbs, raised as his brother and Ricky Robbs his brother by another mother and Vincent Scott.; a special friend, Paulette Spikes and Travis Hunt; three aunts, Mary Ann Wilkins, Elayne McKenzie, of Maryland, Belinda Sheryl Gibbs, of Gaffney; three uncles, Jesse Gibbs, Jr., Nerbert Gibbs, and Thomas Gibbs, all of Gaffney; great-aunts, Gwendolyn Hemphill and Lillie Ellen Thornton, of Flint, MI; other relatives and many friends.
Public Viewing will be held Wednesday —–12:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.
Funeral Service will be Thursday, May 19, 2022, at 1:00 p.m., in Concord Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Michael A. Bridges, officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. He will lie in state in the church at 12:00 p.m. Those who are attending the service are required to wear a mask.
