Mrs. Dorothy Jean Smith Phillips, 77, of 418 Oglesby Valley Road, passed away Friday, April 9, 2021,in her home.
She was born in Gaffney and was the daughter of the late Eugene and Tinnie Mack Smith.
Dorothy was a member of Mikes Creek Missionary Baptist Church where she served as an usher and a member of the Pastor’s Aid. She was a retired employee of Heaven Sent Home Health Care and a former employee of Little Cricket.
She was predeceased by a brother, Zellie D. Smith; two great-grandchildren, Tionna Dukes and Andre Gregory. She leaves to cherish loving memories: a daughter, Beverly Oglesby, of the home; a brother, Simon Smith, of Washington, D.C.; grandchildren, Terrance and LaTreva Oglesby; great-great grandchildren, Terrica and Terrance Oglesby, Terrell Butler, Essence Stevenson, and Zalen Martin; sister-in-law, Stina Smith, of Connecticut; aunts, Madelyn Elder, Elizabeth Penn, and Pansy Martin, all of Washington, D.C.; other relatives and friends.
Public Viewing will be held Wednesday, April 14, from 1:00 to 6:00 p.m.
A Funeral Service will be held Thursday, April 15th, 2:00 p.m., in Mikes Creek Baptist Church with Rev. Courtney Mills officiating. She will be in state in the church Thursday at 1:00 p.m.

Mr. Kendrick Danuell Smith
Mr. Kendrick Danuell Smith, 47, of Gaffney, passed away on Friday, April 2, 2021, in
Orangeburg, SC.
He was born in Cherokee County, and was the son of Evelyn Corry Smith
Johnson and the late James Sarratt.
Kendrick was a 1992 graduate of Gaffney High School where he played football for the Gaffney
Indians. He also attended Gardner Webb University.
He was a member of Bethel Baptist Church, a truck driver for Pet Dairy Company, and an active
member of Hot Boyz Motorcycle Club.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Arvin Corry, Sr. and Rosalee Corry; two uncles,
Willie Corry, Sr. and Roy Dean Rainey; a cousin, Willie Corry, Jr.
In addition to his mother, Evelyn Smith Johnson (Derrick) he leaves to cherish many fond
memories: his daughter, Katie Smith; his grandchildren, Kylee Bonner, Kensley Bonner and Kyndell Rose Byars; his brothers, William Smith (Audrey) and Drayton Smith; his sisters, Debra Cooper (Berkley), Ivey Askew (Keith), and Dartona Brown (James); step-sisters, Sheila Knuckles (Glenn), Teresa Walker, Tamara Richardson (Kemo, and Marisa Sintton; aunts, Nancy Montgomery and Edith Corry; uncles, Arvin Corry, Jr. (Sarah) and David Corry; great-aunts, Ruby Nell Edward, Evangelist Ruby Askew, and Barbara Watts; nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.
Public Viewing will be held Saturday, 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
The Funeral Service will be Sunday, 1:30 p.m., in Bethel Baptist Church with Rev. James Sanders, Jr., officiating. Interment will follow in Oakland Cemetery. The family is at the home of his mother at 143 Iris Lane.
Mrs. Gloria Shears Tate
Gloria Shears Tate, 70, of Boiling Springs, SC, passed away Saturday, April 3, 2021, in SMC Mary Black Campus.
She was born in Gaffney and was a daughter of the late Samuel and Lillie Wood Shears.
Gloria was a graduate of Granard High School, a seamstress, and a member of New Mount Zion Baptist Church.
She is survived by: two sons, Kendrick Tate (Rhonda), of Spartanburg, SC, and Wesley Tate , of Charlotte, NC; two sisters, Betty Karen Granger, of Jacksonville, FL and Shirley Tate (Johnny), of Gaffney; brothers, Arlene Shears (Willie Ann), of Greensboro, NC, William Shears (Nellie), Freddie Shears, and Dean Shears, all of Gaffney; Evon Shears (Debra), of Clover, SC, Ricky Dawkins(Gerene), of Spartanburg; a special friend, Isaiah Maybin, of Boiling Springs; 4 grandchildren, Whitney, Mydia, Chandler, and Myles Tate; 3 great-grandchildren, Darius (D.J.) Shippy, D-Wade Tate, and Hendrix Vernon; other relatives and friends.
Public Viewing will be held Friday, 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
The Funeral Service will be Saturday, 11:00 a.m., in Greater Hope Ministries with Rev. Caroline Allen-Jones and Rev. William Cleveland. Interment will be in New Mt. Zion Baptist Church Cemetery. The family is at the home of Kendrick and Rhonda Tate, 411 Pleasant Ridge Court, Spartanburg.
