James “Heavy” Lipscomb

James LipscombJames “Heavy” Lipscomb, 79, of 220 Vernie Road, entered eternal rest on Sunday, March 9, 2014, at Brookview HealthCare Center.

Husband of Annie Love Dillard Lipscomb, he was born in Cherokee County and was the son of the late Jimmie D. and Pernilla Wilson Lipscomb. He was a member of Island Creek Baptist Church and retired from Brown Packing Co.

He was preceded in death by his siblings, Verna Mae Arrowood, Hubert Lipscomb, Corine Bunkley and John Lipscomb.

Surviving are his wife, Annie Lipscomb of the home; four sons, James Edward Lipscomb, Roger Byers, Craig Littlejohn and Telly Littlejohn, all of Gaffney; a daughter, Angela Wright (Owen) of Bowie, Md.; nine grandchildren; seven greatgrandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Friday, March 14, from 7-8 p.m. at The Gilmore Mortuary.

Funeral services will be Saturday, March 15, at 1 p.m. in The Gilmore Mortuary Chapel with the Rev. Timothy L. Hunter officiating. Interment will be in Dillard Memorial Gardens.

Charlie Brown

Brown009ObitCharlie Brown, 95, of 113 Ridgewood Street, Shelby, N.C., entered eternal rest on Sunday, Feb. 16, in Shelby.

Widower of Minnie Bonner Brown, he was born in Cherokee County and was a son of the late James and Ada Brown.

He was a member of Mikes Creek Baptist Church and a retired employee of Cleveland County School District.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Frances Allen, three siblings, Solomon Brown, Bessie Sarratt, and Elizabeth Norris.

Surviving is a son, Charles Brown of Charlotte, N.C.; five daughters, Alice Samuel, Ada Cosgrove, and Jimmie Brown, all of Long Island, N.Y.; Gayla Brown and Patricia Brown, both of Shelby; two sisters, Minnie Horton of Shelby and Ora Lee Hill of Charlotte; 11 grandchildren, including Atlas Brown, raised in the home; 26 great-grandchildren; and a great-great grandchild.

Funeral services will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Mikes Creek Baptist Church with the Rev. Courtney Mills officiating.

Interment will follow in Webb Memorial Cemetery, Shelby.

Brown’s body will lie in state in the church Friday from 1-2 p.m.

Jeanne Y. Bunn

Bunn023ObitJeanne Y. Cowsen Bunn was born on February 16, 1940 in Birmingham, AL. She was the first of four children born to Gladys Blakley and Henry Cowsen. The family moved to New York in 1942. Jeanne was raised and attended catholic school in Brooklyn, NY.

Jeanne met and married her high school sweetheart and the love of her life, Warren J. Bunn, Jr. From this union, two sons were born, Michael Anthony and David Wayne. Jeanne and Warren lived in Queens, NY for fifty-five years until his death in 2011. Not wanting to remain in NY, Jeanne relocated to Gaffney, SC in 2012 to be near her sister.

After a short illness, Jeanne was called home to heaven on February 7, 2014 in Gaffney, SC. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by one son, Michael Anthony Bunn.

Left to cherish loving memories are her son, David Bunn; a sister, Gladys Shuff (John); a brother, Henry Cowsen, Jr.; a grandson, Justin Bunn; a granddaughter, Amanda Bunn; a grandson, Jaden Bunn; nieces, Joanne Taylor, Lena Johnson, and Shantá Boyce; and a host of great nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
