Parniece Elizabeth Corry

Parniece Elizabeth Corry, 96, of 609 W. Rutledge Ave, passed away Thursday, April 9th, in her home. She was the daughter of the late James and Viola Thompson Corry.

She was a graduate of Academy Street High School in Blacksburg. She attended Cosmetology School in Winston- Salem, NC. She retired after 28 years as a Nurses Aid from Rockland State Hospital in Rockland NY. 

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her brothers and sisters, Norman, Andrew, Evelyn, Aubrey, Zenobia, Myrtle, Conwell, Lottie, James, Maxine, Haywood, and Marva Joe. She was the last surviving aunt and sibling in her family.

She leaves to cherish loving memories to her nieces and nephews: Kenneth Wade (Juanita) of Charlotte, N.C., James Wade of Gaffney, S.C., Dr. Kelvin Wade (Vivian) of Monroe, La, Terrance Lowrey of Lincolnton, N.C., Bernard Lowrey (Mary) of Gaffney, Sheree Adams (David) of the home, Robert Corry of Boston, MA, Sandra Corry of Huntersville, N.C., Shelia Corry of Hollywood, CA, Jolene Corry of Jersey City, NJ, Maicia Corry of Marietta, Ga, Michelle Corry of Jersey City, NJ, James Corry of Jersey City, NJ,  and Hayward Corry of Columbia, S.C.; two first cousins, William Bridges of Kings Mountain, NC. and Clougeon Crosby of Shelby, NC.; two sisters in-law, Bernice Corry of Soberton, GA and Sherry Chambers of Charlotte, NC.

Graveside Service will be Tuesday, April 14th, 11:00 a.m., in Oakland Cemetery.

Maggie Rita Hopper Miller

Maggie Rita Hopper Miller, 91, of 1311 Newton St., Shelby, NC, passed away Sunday, April 5th, in White Oak Manor, Kings Mountain, NC.

She was born in Reidsville, South Carolina to the late Mack B. and Annie Sue Anderson Hopper.

She enjoyed cooking, singing, and sewing. She loved her family but most of all she adored her great-grandchildren. From years of wanting to be a nurse, she always took care of her family when they were sick.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a son, Henry Hopper; six brothers, Ernest, Ed, Earl, Mack, Newton, and J.D. Hopper; two sisters, Joanne Palmer, Angelou Russell; two grandsons, Henry Hopper Jr. and Terry Ratchford; two great-granddaughters, Shay Hopper and Andrea Boykins.

She leaves to cherish loving memories: two daughters, Rita Kaye Ratchford and Barbara Black; two brothers, Dean hopper (Venia) and Ray Hopper (Minnie); four sisters, Lois Lockhart (Eugene), Montrose Lilly, Agnes Hopper, and Edna Hamrick; six grandchildren, Jerry Ratchford (Mitcheall), Nataja Boykins (Rev. JQ), Charlene Ratchford, Deidra Blackmon (Russell), Latrice Moore (William), and Ernest Hopper; nineteen great-grandchildren; seven great-great grandchildren; a daughter in-law, Sandra Hopper; two sisters in-law, Katherin Hopper and Louise Hopper; a special Goddaughter, Jacinta Watson.

Graveside Service will be Saturday, at 1:00 p.m. in The Divine True Holiness Church of God cemetery, in Blacksburg, SC.

Maurice Floyd Littlejohn

Maurice Floyd Littlejohn, 75, of Surfside Beach, South Carolina passed away at his residence on Sunday, March 29, 2020. Born in Gaffney, South Carolina on March 16, 1945, he was the first of nine children born to the late Floyd and Elmetta Carpenter Littlejohn. Maurice was educated in the Cherokee County Public Schools and was a 1962 graduate of Granard High School. He sang in the choir, played full-back for the Trojans, participated in the drama club, the school choir and was one of the lead singers with the Ravens, a local R&B band. He joined the Limestone Baptist Church at an early age and participated in the choir, Royal Ambassadors, Sunday School and Baptist Training Union. After graduating from high school, and a short stint of employment at the gas company, Maurice served his country during the Vietnam Era as a member of the United States Navy. His love for traveling on the water made his time served a pleasant one. He enjoyed fishing and chose to live in areas near the water all his life; including Palo Alto and San Francisco, California and his residence at death, Surfside Beach, South Carolina. While stationed in New Iberia, Louisiana, he married Ether Semere and to that union one son, Maurice Floyd Littlejohn, Jr. was born. Maurice Jr. preceded his father in death (January 20, 2019). After departing from the service Maurice returned to Gaffney and married Geraldine Lipscomb Littlejohn. They soon relocated to Washington, DC where he was employed by Foreman Brothers and Xerox. Maurice would return to school and earn a BA Degree in Accounting, magna cum laude from Strayer University. He received a promotion from Xerox and moved to San Jose, California. Upon retirement in 2006, he made his retirement complete by moving to Surfside Beach, South Carolina. Maurice is survived by two loving sons: Jason (Erin) Scott and Isaiah Maurice Littlejohn; six grandchildren: Dominique, Jaidyn, Jordan and Jonathan Littlejohn and Christian and Alyssa Scott. He will be sorely missed by his eight surviving siblings: Linda (Ronald) Felton, Charles (Sheran) Littlejohn, Larry (Ethel) Littlejohn, Steven Littlejohn, Anita Wood, Terry Littlejohn, Kathy (Lorenzo) Charles and Janice Littlejohn. His love will be remembered by all of his family especially his nieces, nephews, cousins and his friends.

A celebration of his life is scheduled for a later date in Gaffney, South Carolina.
